Mickey Yokoi
Assistant Coach
Yokoi has been involved with both men's and women's golf programs at ASU for the past 14 years. Yokoi served as associate head coach of the men's golf team, helping the Sun Devils to five Pacific-10 Conference titles and four regional championships the last nine seasons. He coached several top players, including 2000 U.S. Amateur Champion Jeff Quinney, two-time English Amateur Champion Paul Casey, 2001 U.S. Public Links Champion Chez Reavie, 2003 NCAA Champion Alejandro Canizares and 2009 European Amateur Champion Stephen Gross. Prior to his stint as associate head coach with the men's golf program at ASU, Yokoi served as the Sun Devils head women's golf coach from 2001-2002. Yokoi guided the women's team to a third-place finish and individual medalist at the 2002 Pac-10 Championships. ASU also recorded the lowest stroke average in the country for the fall season. Yokoi first joined the Sun Devil men's program in 1997, serving as an assistant for five seasons before taking the reigns of the women's golf team. Before joining ASU, Yokoi oversaw all golf operations as a head golf professional at the Country Club of the North in Dayton, Ohio, from 1994-95 and assisted the head professional from 1993-94. He also served as the vice chairman of the Children's Medical Center LPGA Tour Event in 1995. Yokoi was a four-year letterwinner at UCLA, helping the Bruins to the Pac-10 Championship in 1982 with teammates Corey Pavin and Steve Pate. While at UCLA, Yokoi earned All-America and All Pac-10 honors. Yokoi graduated from UCLA in 1997 with a degree in psychology. After leaving UCLA, Yokoi played on the Asian Tour, the Canadian and Australian PGA Tours and the PGA Hogan Tour. Yokoi and his wife Carole, have two children, son, Justin and daughter, Alyssa. John Wurzer
Assistant Coach
Wurzer was the head golf coach at nearby Torrance High for nine seasons (2000-08), where he led the Tartars to the 2005, 2007 and 2008 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Girls Golf Championships. Under his leadership, Torrance became the most successful high school girl's program in California with 24 top-2 finishes in CIF events (17 CIF championships and seven CIF runner-up finishes). His teams produced 2007 LPGA Rookie of the Year Angela Park, LPGA Tour members Jane Rah, Jenny Shin and Demi Runas as well as Futures Tour player Maria Ham. Wurzer is a 2006 graduate from LBSU where he was a four-year letterwinner on the men's golf team under former head coach Bob Livingstone. During his career at the Beach, Wurzer recorded seven top-10 performances and captured the 1996 CSUN Bill Cullum Invitational. John is a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Level-3 Certified Golf Fitness Instructor and a Certified Golfing Machine Instructor (GSEM). "I'm excited about the opportunity to work at my alma mater," Wurzer said. "I grew up a Long Beach State fan and being able to return to the program is special opportunity."
