Rebecca Stier
Assistant Coach
Stier joined the Loras Track and Field staff for the 2015 season after being hired in November of 2014. Stier is a 2011 graduate of Winona State University where she earned her degree in professional studies with an emphasis in collegiate throwing. While at Winona State, Stier was a six-time NCAA Division II All-American in the weight throw (2009, 2010), shot put, (2010, Indoor/Outdoor 2011) and discus (2010). In addition, Stier owns the Winona State all-time shot put record with a distance of 15.55m. Her personal bests in the shot put, discus, hammer throw and weight throw all ranked in the top-10 in program history during her time at Winona State. Stier completed her masters degree in May of 2015 in physical education, coaching of sport from Southwest Minnesota State University. While at Southwest Minnesota State, she was a graduate assistant in the track and field program and worked with the throwers. In addition to her coaching at the collegiate level, Stier also worked at Grand Meadow Public Schools as a volleyball coach, assistant varsity basketball coach and assistant track and field coach for throwing.

Matt Jones
Coach
Jones is a 2005 graduate of Loras College where he spent three seasons competing as a member of the track and field program. During his time at Loras, Jones earned All-American honors twice (2003 Outdoor T&F and 2004 Indoor T&F) and served as team captain his senior year. Since becoming a coach at Loras, Jones has helped coach 35 Iowa Conference Champions, dozens of NCAA Qualifers, 15 All-Americans and 10 Academic All-Americans. Additionally, under Jones' leadership, numerous school records have been broken, as well as IIAC Conference Meet records being held. Jones has also coached 2 Conference MVPs in his tenure (2013, 2015). This past season the track & field program had Loras first ever Elite 90 recipient. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAAs 90 championships. The Loras women finished 22nd at the 2016 NCAA Track & Field Championships, the highest finish since 2007. Jones is a 2000 graduate of Davenport Assumption High School and was a three-sport athlete for the Knights, competing in cross country, track and field and baseball. He currently resides in Dubuque, Iowa. Matt Jones begins his 4th season as the Loras Track and Field Head Coach after spending seven seasons as an assistant under Bob Schultz. Bob Schultz

Schultz was previously an assistant at Loras from 1991-1994 and earned his master's degree in physical education/athletic administration from Loras in 1994. Schultz recently completed his 11th season as the Duhawks' cross country coach. To open the 2015 season, Loras women won the Central College Invitational. The Duhawks ran to the top of the Iowa Conference claiming their first IIAC Championship in program history. For his teams finish, Schultz was named IIAC Womens Coach of the Year for the second time in the past three seasons. Loras put four runners in the top-10 to earn All-Conference honors. Senior Maggie Saenz Ruiz finished as conference runner-up, freshman Audrey Miller finished sixth, Senior Bri Cook finished seventh and junior Emily Day finished 10th. The Duhawks also had their highest finish at the NCAA Central Region Championships under Schultz, finishing fourth out of 30 teams and top among all Iowa teams. In addition to their success on the cross country course, the Loras womens cross country team earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with a team GPA of 3.12. Men's cross country celebrated what was arguably the most successful season in program history. To open the season, Loras won the Central Dutch Invitational with a very low score of 21 points. The Duhawks went on the win the National Catholic Championships at the University of Notre Dame for the second consecutive year over a field that included NCAA Division II and NAIA scholarship programs. Loras captured its sixth conference championship in program history and second title in a row. As a result, Schultz was named the Iowa Conference Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. At the NCAA Central Region Championships, Loras tied for second and qualified for the National Championships as a team for the third straight year. The Duhawks trip to Nationals was a huge success. Loras went into the meet ranked 22nd and finished 14th, the highest finish in program history. Sophomore Mason Tope earned All-American honors with his 30th place finish. In addition to their success on the cross country course, the Loras mens cross country team was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team with a team GPA of 3.19. After serving as Loras head track & field coach from 2005 to 2013, Schultz took on a new role as assistant track & field coach in 2014. During that time, Schultz received a wide array of awards and accomplishments during his time at Loras, including the IIAC and NCAA Central Region Coach of the Year for 2007 in men's indoor track and field. He led the men to the Iowa Conference Indoor Championship in 2007 and the Outdoor Championship in 2005 and two top-10 NCAA Indoor & Outdoor finishes at the Men's Championships. Schultz also led the women to a fifth place finish in 2007 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Loras Track & Field has had a combined 60 All Americans in men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field at Loras, including three NCAA Division III Champions under Schultz. Loras is Schultz's third different head coaching stop. He came to Dubuque from Lewis University in the suburbs of Chicago. Schultz spent three years coaching at Lewis, where he was the head mens and womens cross country and track coach. Schultz guided the Flyers to four Great Lakes Valley Conference titles in track and field and two in cross country. Schultz has also previously served as the head coach at Elmhurst College, an NCAA Division III school in his hometown of Elmhurst, Ill. There, he headed the cross country and track and field programs for eight years. Under Schultzs leadership, the womens cross country team went from last in the CCIW when Schultz arrived, to finishing seventh at the National Championships seven years later. The mens program showed significant improvement as well moving up from last in the CCIW to second in that same seven-year period. He ran in high school for nationally known York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois, where he was a member of Yorks 1986 state championship team. Ethan Adlfinger
Coach
Ethan Adlfinger enters his second season as head coach of the Loras College cross country teams ahead of the 2025-26 year after spending the previous five years as an assistant under longtime former head coach Bob Schultz. Adlfinger joined the Duhawks in 2019 after serving as a graduate assistant coach for the men’s cross country and track and field programs at North Central College, focusing on recruiting efforts for the Cardinals. Since Adlfinger’s arrival, the Duhawks have had 24 student-athletes earn All-American status in the distance and middle distance events at the NCAA National Championships, with six having won national titles. In 2019, the Duhawks had three cross country national championship qualifiers in Kassie Parker, Audrey Miller and Luke Guttormson with All-America honors awarded to Parker (5th) and Miller (25th). The women’s 5K school record was also set during the 2020 cross country season by Parker (17:56). In 2023, Loras closed out the season No. 25 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Associateion (USTFCCCA) rankings after the Purple and Gold finished 29th at the NCAA Championships. Adlfinger helped coach four Duhawks to All-Region status in Ryan Harvey, Julian Watson, Carlo Dannenfelseer, and Jacob Belha. Belha, Harvey, Watson, and Eric Rutherford each earned All-Conference nods at the At the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Championships following the team's third place finish. In 2021, Adlfinger helped coach Parker to win the national championship in cross country in 2021, the first in program history, and take the indoor titles in the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs a the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship. He also worked with the men's and women's distance medley relays that claimed All-America honors and helped the teams to two podium finishes, including the women's first indoor national title. In his fourth season as the cross country assistant coach, Adlfinger helped lead the Duhawks to another successful season. The Women’s cross country team finished 2nd in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C), 4th in the Midwest Regional, and 18th at the NCAA National Championship. Senior Kassie Parker was an A-R-C Champion and an NCAA National Champion. The Men’s team saw success as well, finishing 2nd in the A-R-C, 3rd in the Midwest Regional, and 20th at the NCAA National Championship. Both teams earned an at-large bid to the National Championship. The 2021 track & field season was highlighted with an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) championship for the women’s program and the Loras coaching staff being named coaching staff of the year. The women went on to win the program’s second-straight NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field National Title two weeks later in Greensboro, NC. The women's program captured the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship title following the indoor conference title. In his career as a student-athlete and coach, Adlfinger has been a part of two national titles with the Duhawks and eight in his career. A former student-athlete for the legendary Al Carius, Adlfinger was a part of six team national titles and three podium finishes. He is a two-time All-American in cross country and track and field and ran on the 2016 cross country team that set and still holds the NCAA record for largest margin of victory. He was a three-time national qualifier for cross country, a two-time qualifier in the steeplechase and a member of the distance medley relay team that earned All-America accolades in 2017. Adlfinger currently holds the North Central freshman record in the steeplechase, running 9:15.60, and ranks third in program history in the same event (9:02.64). As a graduate assistant coach at North Central, Adlfinger helped lead the Cardinals to their 18th and 19th NCAA Division III men’s cross country national titles as well as the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field title. Adlfinger owns six United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Academic All-America honors and was an 11-time College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Academic award winner. He holds certifications in strength and conditioning and sprint, hurdles, and relays from the USTFCCCA and graduated from North Central in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a minor in coaching and master’s degree in sports leadership in 2019. Adlfinger currently resides in Dubuque with his wife, Emily, and their son, William.
