Jake Reed
Assistant Coach
Reed was a member of the Liberty Flames Cross Country and Track and Field program from 2007-2010. While attending Liberty University, Reed received his bachelors of science degree in Sport Management. Most recently Reed was an assistant triathlon coach at Liberty University training athletes in running. The last four years he has been the head coach of the Patriot Pacers High School Club Cross Country/Track program located in Forest, VA. Reed has coached a Foot Locker South All-Region Cross Country Performer and three New Balance High School National Qualifiers. While running at Liberty University, Reed was a Big South All Conference in Cross Country 2008 & 2009, 2008 IC4A qualifier in the 10k, member of 2008-2011 Big South Conference Championship Team in Cross Country, Indoor, & Outdoor Track, and a 2007 & 2009 Big South Presidential Honor Roll Award receiver.

Maleena Reid
Assistant Coach
Reid earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in recreation, Sports Leadership and Tourism Management with a concentration in Public and Nonprofit Recreation from the University of North CarolinaWilmington in 2014. This past year she served as an assistant coach for her alma mater UNC-Wilmington, specifically working with sprinters and jumpers. She coached under newly hired Lynchburg College Cross Country and Track and Field Director Jim Sprecher. Reid had a very impressive collegiate career at Division I UNC- Wilmington as sprinter and jumper. She was a captain on the UNC- Wilmington Womens Track and Field team. Reid was Voted Most V aluable Athlete for Womens Track and Field all four years (2011-2014) as well being All-Conference her entire tenure. Reid is currently the school record holder in seven events: 55m, 60m, 200m (indoor), 100m, 200m (outdoor), 4x200m, Sprint Medley. A Conference Champion in the 100m dash (2013,2014), 200m dash, 4x100m Relay, and the 4x400 Relay (2014). Off the track, Reid was a member of the Deans Advisory Council and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship at UNC-Wilmington. At Lynchburg, Reid will be coaching sprinters and jumpers.

Ryan Smith
Assistant Coach
Smith is in his first year coaching at Lynchburg College. Ryan graduated in May 2013 from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Arts in social science. Ryan was an eight-time Big South shot put champion while also earned conference championships in the weight throw and discus as a junior. He was named the Big South Field Athlete of the Year in 2011, 2012, and 2013 for the Flames. He qualified for the NCAA Division I National Championships four times in the shot put and was named a national finalist in 2013. Ryan was the only athlete in all of Division I to qualify and compete at the 2012 NCAA Championship preliminaries in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw. He will be working primarily with the throwers at LC.

Jim Sprecher
Coach
Sprecher enters his second year as the Lynchburg College director of Cross Country and Track and Field. In his first two seasons, Sprecher has coached 30 All-ODAC student-athletes, including six All-Region selections in Cross Country and a combined five from Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field while also having one athlete and two teams being named Academic All-American. Sprecher has served at Division I UNC-Wilmington since 2003, and also from 1992-99 as the head cross country and track and field coach. Since 2003, he has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Coach of the Year five times and his teams have won five CAA team titles. Sprecher has mentored three NCAA All-Americans, an NCAA Division I Regional Athlete of the Year, a USATF National Championship qualifier and a USA Team member in international competition. A total of 14 of his student-athletes earned CAA Athlete of the Year awards. Sprecher's teams have excelled academically as well. He has coached 32 Academic All-American teams and 29 Academic All-Americans. Sprecher has a wealth of coaching experience, having also led Ball State University and Arkansas College and assisted at Louisiana Tech, Wayland Baptist and Baylor University. He graduated from Ball State University and earned his masters degree from Baylor.
