Katie Kollar

Head Coach

Katie Kollar became the head womens basketball coach at Macalester before the 2019-20 season. In her three seasons at Macalester Kollar has doubled the teams win total every year. Kollar has coached student-athltes who have earned All-MIAC honors and her team's GPA's have consistently been over a 3.5. Kollar came to St. Paul after spending the previous four seasons as the head coach at SUNY Cobleskill. At SUNY Cobleskill, Kollar took a Fighting Tigers team that had won just two games the year before and quickly built a solid program. After a nine-win campaign in her first year, Kollar led SUNY Cobleskill to a 14-12 record in 2016-17, the programs first winning season in five years. That year, the team also earned a berth in the ECAC Tournament for the first time since 2008. Kollar also recruited and coached a student-athlete who scored her 1,000th career point during her junior year, just the second Fighting Tiger to achieve the milestone as a junior. Overall, SUNY Cobleskill was 46-55 under Kollar. Prior to her time at SUNY Cobleskill, Kollar was an assistant coach at Springfield (Mass.) College for two years. While at Springfield, she served as a compliance intern at American International College, an NCAA Division II institution in Springfield. Kollar also spent one year as an assistant coach at Averett University in Danville, Va.

AD Donovan

Head Coach

AD Donovan was named the new head women’s basketball coach at Macalester in June of 2025. Most recently Donovan was the head coach at Division II Alaska-Fairbanks from 2022-25. “AD brings a wealth of experience from every level of the game,” Brooks said. “Her coaching journey reflects a deep commitment to student-centered leadership, academic excellence, and building strong, values-driven team cultures. We’re thrilled to welcome AD to the Macalester community and look forward to the energy, perspective, and leadership she will bring to our department.” In her first season at Alaska-Fairbanks, Donovan guided the Nanooks to their first victory over rival Alaska-Anchorage in 16 years, snapping a 32-game losing streak to the Seawolves. The following year, Alaska-Fairbanks earned its first weekend sweep against Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents for the first time since 2016-17. This past season saw the Nanooks post their highest win total since the 2016-17 campaign. Three of Donovan’s recruits were named to the All-GNAC team during her tenure, with 15 players earning a spot on the Academic All-GNAC team over her three years as head coach. Prior to her time at Alaska-Fairbanks, Donovan spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Weber State in Ogden, Utah. While at Weber State, she recruited and coached three-time All-Big Sky forward Daryn Hickok, who went on to become the Wildcats’ third-leading scorer all-time. Donovan was involved in many aspects of the Weber State program, including coaching the wing and post players, scouting, recruiting, fundraising, marketing and compliance. Donovan spent one season as the head coach at Shoreline (Wash.) Community College, where she also taught academic classes in addition to her duties as head coach. The previous year, she served as an assistant coach at Division I Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, Ariz., for one season. Donovan also coached at the high school level for one year and was an A PLUS Youth Program/Basketball Education in Action mentor for two years after beginning her coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Washington for the 2012-13 season. “I’m incredibly honored and excited to be named the head coach of the Macalester College women’s basketball program,” Donovan said. “Macalester’s strong academic reputation as well as its strong commitment to the holistic student-athlete experience make it a truly special place. I’m eager to build on the positive momentum already in place and continue fostering a culture of excellence, growth, and unity. I want to thank Athletic Director Donnie Brooks and the entire search committee for their confidence in me and for the opportunity to lead this exceptional group of student-athletes. Go Scots!” A native of Battle Ground, Wash., Donovan attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a member of the women’s basketball team and served as team co-captain as a senior. She graduated with a degree in history in 2010, and earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Washington in 2013.

Zenise Chambers

Assistant Coach

Zenise Chambers joined the women's basketball coaching staff in the summer of 2022. Chambers comes to Macalester after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at Randolph College, a NCAA Division III school in Lynchburg, Va. While at Randolph, Chambers was involved in practice and game preparation, recruiting, opponent scouting, skill development, film breakdown and statistical analysis and academic monitoring while also maintaining the teams social media accounts. This past season, she helped to guide the Wildcats to a 16-7 record, the best mark in the programs history, and a fifth-place finish in the ODAC standings. Chambers coached two All-ODAC Rookies of the Year, one ODAC and D3Hoops Region 6 Rookie of the Year, one first and second team All-Conference, one VASID Rookie of the Year and one All-State first team. In addition to her duties at Randolph, Chambers worked as an instructor at Point Guard College, developing basketball IQ and leadership development.She also participated in the So You Want to Be a Coach program sponsored by the Womens Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in the spring of 2020. Chambers was a four-year member of the women's basketball team at Averett University in Danville, Va., where she helped the Cougars post four consecutive 18-9 seasons and earned the teams Outstanding Service Award three times. While being a four year varsity member, in 2018-19 she helped the program to its first USA South Conference East Division Championship in program history. A native of Ashburn, Va., Chambers graduated from Averett with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine and Coaching. She recently completed her Masters of Arts degree in Coaching and Sport Leadership at Randolph.
