Andrew Chalot
Head Coach
Andrew Chalot enters his seventh season as the Mansfield Mountaineer head baseball coach in 2026. Chalot was named the next head coach of the Mansfield baseball program at a press conference on Aug. 29, 2019. 2025 was perfected through Jacob Houtz's career, being named the NCBWA Atlantic Regional Athlete, D2CCA Atlantic Regional Athlete, and the PSAC East Athlete of the Year. Houtz became the first Mountaineer to be named the D2CCA Region Player of the Year and marks coach Chalot's fourth D2CCA member. The senior becomes the first Mountie to be named NCBWA Region Player of the Year since Jason Manwaring in 2002 and marked the coach's fourth NCBWA All-Atlantic selection. His PSAC award made him the sixth player in program history and the first player since Ryan Wyland in 2007 to be awarded Athlete of the Year honors behind his First Team selection and Cole Serfass was named to the All-PSAC for a second consecutive season. Houtz and Shane Stossel both won a PSAC East Athlete of the Week, including Stossel earning a NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week. On the season, the team defeated three nationally ranked teams including #9 Millersville, #11 Southern New Hampshire, and #22 West Chester, their most since the 2011 season. In his 2024 campaign, Jacob Houtz was the star, being named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Second Team, D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Second Team, the NCBWA All-Atlantic Region Second Team, and the All-PSAC Eastern Division Second Team. Cementing third in slugging percentage, he finished fourth in total bases in the PSAC, batting average landed him sixth, his home runs ranked tied for seventh, and on base percentage was the seventh highest. Cole Serfass also was named to the All-PSAC Second Team in his freshman campaign. Houtz and Austin Lewis both earned NCBWA Atlantic Regional Athlete/Pitcher of the Week honors. Following the 2023 season, sophomore Austin Lewis was named to the All-PSAC Eastern Division Second Team starting pitcher after finishing in the top-ten in all major pitching statistic categories. Chalot continued to lead the Mountaineers to resurgence in 2022 where they finished 22-24 overall and 11-13 in the PSAC East, clinching their most wins since 2013 (23-27), while notching their most conference wins since 2010 and their second straight season with back-to-back double-digit conference victories. The Mountaineers' sixth-place PSAC East finish is their best since also finishing sixth in 2011. Senior ace Hunter DePrimo set the program record for career strikeouts with 282, breaking Steve Micknich's previous record of 262 (1991-94). Senior utility player Assaf Lowengart was named 2nd-Team All-PSAC East following the season. In his second season and first official full season in 2021, Chalot led the Mounties to a 12-24, 11-21 PSAC East record, marking their highest conference win total since 2010. Mansfield also won at least one game against everyone in the PSAC East, except for one team. The Mounties took a huge leap offensively in 2021 and ranked in the top-10 of the PSAC in homers (33) and runs batted in (146). The Mountaineer pitching staff proved their dominance as well, ranking eight in the conference in strikeouts with 290. The team success allowed individuals to earn recognition at the end of the season, as Hunter DePrimo, Tyler Melko and freshman Zachary Shertzer all earned 1st-Team All-PSAC East, which is the highest total of first-teamers since 2008, while Melko and DePrimo both brought home multiple of All-Region honors. In his first season at the helm, the Mountaineers were off to a 4-9 start before having the season cut short due to COVID-19. Chalot served as an assistant coach with Mountaineer baseball for the past eight seasons where he was primarily responsible for the pitching staff and acted as team recruiting coordinator. In his time at Mansfield as an assistant coach under Harry Hillson, nine players have earned All-PSAC East recognition including pitchers Joe Candelmo, Tommy Alexander, and Tanner Klein. Under Chalot’s guidance, Candelmo set an 11-year old NCAA Division II record for fewest walks allowed per nine innings during the 2013 season. The lefty allowed just one walk in 65.2 innings of work for an average of .14 walks per nine innings, cutting the previous record of .27 (2 walks in 66.1 innings) in half. Following the 2013 season, relief pitcher Nick Keener was drafted in the 10th round of the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was the first PSAC player selected in that year’s draft. Eight different Mountaineers have gone on to play professional baseball in Chalot’s tenure. Two members of Chalot’s pitching staff tossed back-to-back no hitters in a doubleheader against Kutztown on April 11, 2016. Brandon Garrett opened the twinbill with his no-no in a 1-0 win before Luke Hils followed with a no-hitter of his own in another 1-0 victory in the nightcap. It was the first no-hitter for Mansfield baseball since 1997 and the first at Shaute Field since 1977. In 2019, Evan McAndrew ranked ninth in the PSAC in strikeouts per nine innings at 11.06. During the 2017 season, Hils was fourth the conference in complete games with five. In 2016, Chase Pepper ranked third in the PSAC and 27th in the nation in strikeouts per nine innings at 10.92. Candelmo was 1st in the nation in both strikeout to walk ratio (55.00) and walks allowed per nine innings (.14) during the 2013 season. Assistant Coach
Jeff Limoncelli joins the Mansfield baseball program ahead of the 2026 season, bringing with him over three decades of coaching excellence, a legacy of leadership, and a championship pedigree that has left a lasting impact on baseball in New York state. A lifelong baseball mind and one of the most respected high school coaches in the northeast, Limoncelli amassed over 400 career wins during his remarkable 27-year tenure as head coach at Horseheads High School. His career reached a storybook milestone in 2025, when he guided Horseheads to a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Class AA state championship—his second state title, and the perfect capstone to a legendary high school coaching career. In total, he led Horseheads to 11 Section 4 championships, two state titles(1999, 2025), and built one of the most consistent and disciplined programs in the northeast. In addition to his success on the diamond, Limoncelli also coached the Horseheads boys’ varsity basketball team for several seasons, earning three Section 4 championships and further demonstrating his versatility as a coach and mentor. Known for his demanding yet supportive coaching style, Limoncelli’s practices were built on accountability, intensity, and pride. He challenged his players to meet high standards every day, while also fostering a team culture rooted in discipline, hard work, and mutual respect. His ability to connect with young athletes has made a lifelong impact on hundreds of players, many of whom went on to play at the collegiate and professional levels. A native of Elmira, N.Y., Limoncelli was a three-sport standout at Elmira Free Academy, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. He continued his baseball career at the collegiate level, playing at both the University of South Carolina Aiken and the University of West Florida. In 1989, he signed with the Boston Red Sox and began his professional career as an infielder with the Elmira Pioneers of the New York-Penn League. He went on to play three and a half seasons in the Red Sox farm system, gaining valuable experience that would later shape his coaching philosophy. Limoncelli’s deep baseball roots extend to his family as well. His father, Bill Limoncelli, was also involved in the game as a coach within the Red Sox organization, and his influence helped instill a passion for baseball in Jeff from a young age. Jeff continued this legacy by coaching both of his sons, Michael and Nico, through standout careers at Horseheads. His son Michael was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft and spent time in the Mariners’ farm system, while Nico continued his collegiate baseball career at the Division I level. Jeff’s dedication to the game is matched by his commitment to family, and he credits much of his success to the support of his wife, Amy, and their children.
