Todd Bacon

Head Coach

Bacon was an assistant coach for the prior five years working primarily with the pitchers and catchers.   In his first two seasons, he has guided the Knights to a 35-46 overall record with a 30-33 mark in the Crossroads League. In 2015, he guided MU to its first winning season in the league since the 2011 campaign.   His career at Marian University extends back to 2003. He served as the head women's basketball coach from 2003 until the end of the 2012-13 season.   In his time as head women's basketball coach, Bacon amassed a 177-117 career record and guided the Knights to their first-ever NAIA national tournament appearance in 2010-11.   During the 2010-11 campaign, the Knights set the school record for victories and garnered the program's first-ever 20-win season. The Knights finished 23-8 and earned a berth in the second round of the national tournament.   The Knights spent nine of his 10 seasons ranked inside the top 25 during each season and was the 2010-11 MCC regular season runner-up and 2009-10 MCC Tournament runner-up.   Bacon's women's basketball teams were notorious for their relentless pressure on defense and, in 2010-11, finished with the nation's top field goal percentage defense.   Also during his stint as head women's coach, Bacon served as head men's and women's tennis coach.   He guided the men's team to two league championships (2005-06, 2006-07) and was named the 2005-06 Mid-Central College Conference Coach of the Year. His 53-19 career record and .736 winning percentage was a program best.   As women's coach, the Knights were two-time NAIA Region VIII Tournament participants and registered a 51-25 record under his tutelage.   Prior to Marian University, Bacon served as head men's basketball coach, head baseball coach (1997-00) and director of athletics at Goshen College. He spent 1994-2000 as head men's basketball coach and guided the Leafs to their first two postseason wins in program history.   As a student, Bacon played baseball and basketball at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. He lettered all four years in both sports from 1987-90.   In basketball, Bacon was the 1989 team most valuable player and still holds the school record for 3-pointers made in a season.   In baseball, he was the team MVP in 1988 and 1990. In 1989, he was part of the Collegiate Athletic Conference championship team and led the Quakers in batting average during his senior season.   He graduated from Earlham College in 1990.   In high school, Bacon was part of a final sixteen team in 1983 and still holds the school record for points in a game (48) and field goals in a game (22).   Bacon is married with four children and the family resides in Crawfordsville, Ind. Son Maverick is a baseball player at Ball State.
