Hudson Bates
Assistant Coach
Bates enters his fourth season at the helm of the young Marymount University Men's Volleyball program. Coach Bates led the Saints to an impressive 19-11 record in the program's third season in 2016, finishing third in the Continental Volleyball Conference (9-3), while scoring a historical defeat of No. 4 in the country, Rutgers University-Newark, during the regular season. Coach Bates looks forward to another strong recruiting class consisting of athletes from Virginia, California, and New York for the 2017 season. On the outlook for the season Bates states, "Last year was all about the athletes taking over and managing the team culture, and this season is going to be great as we continue that process and have our first class of seniors in program history." A former standout at nearby George Mason University, Bates competed for the Patriots from 2005-08. In only three seasons on the court due to a medical redshirt, Bates notched over 1,000 kills, was named a three-time EIVA All-Conference member, and 2005 Newcomer of the Year. Bates was selected as EIVA Player of the Week on multiple occasions throughout his career, and AVCA National Player of the Week once. After college, Bates began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant with his alma mater, from 2008-09. Hudson was invited to train and compete with the USA Men's National team from 2008-10, and competed professionally in the Puerto Rico Superior League and Qatar National League from 2008-12. During the summer months, Hudson competes as a professional beach volleyball player on the AVP tour and ranks among the top-10 teams in the Nation. In 2010, he was a member of the USA National beach team, and has represented the USA in multiple international FIVB tournaments throughout the years.
