Head Coach
Roy Hill enters his third season as the head men’s wrestling coach at Marymount in 2024-25. He is the inaugural coach for a program that was announced in March 2022. During the 2024-25 season, Hill continued to improve the program in their third full season. The Saints competed at the NCAA Division III Regional where three Saints earned top-eight finishes. In June 2023, he was honored with the Bobby Douglas Legacy Award by the Black Wrestling Association. The award is given in recognition of significant contributions to the Black wrestling community and longstanding commitment to inspiring, connecting and empowering Black wrestlers through attitude, words and actions. In his first season, Hill coached the Saints through a challenging schedule that culminated at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships in February which saw Mateo Hernandez finish in eighth place at 141 pounds. Hill brings over 30 years of experience to the table as the Saints' wrestling program gets off the ground. A graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Hill served as the head wrestling coach at Hayfield High School since 1992. Hill turned Hayfield into a regional power and produced multiple Virginia state champions. He was responsible for all aspects of the program, from recruiting athletes, practice planning, and collegiate prep work. Outside of prep athletics, Hill founded the Gunston Wrestling Club in Alexandria, Va. He has served as the acting director since its implementation and managed all operations for the club. As a coach, Hill developed multiple athletes for the Virginia Wrestling Association (VAWA) National Team and had eight mentees earn All-American status at Cadet/Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D. Hill has played an integral role in growing the sport in Northern Virginia. He has served VAWA since 1998 in various roles including Chairman and Vice-Chairman. Hill implemented USA Wrestling policies in Virginia, oversaw the association's budget, and led the Virginia National Teams at various events throughout the country. He has also served as the President of the Northern Virginia Wrestling Coaches Association since 1996. Hill organized coaching clinics, developed the WrestleSmart Program, and helped developed the VHSL Wrestling Weight Control Program. In addition to those achievements, Hill directed the Virginia vs. Maryland Senior All-Star Dual Meet, which acts as the premier regional showcase for top state wrestling athletes as they look to move onto college. Hill is a Gold Certified USA Wrestling coach and was named to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2015. He has also been honored as the Washington Examiner Wrestling Coach of the Year (2006), the Fairfax Journal Newspapers Wrestling Coach of the Year (2003), and the Washington Post All-Metropolitan Wrestling Coach of the Year (2004).

Ibrahim Bunduka
Assistant Coach
Ibrahim Bunduka enters his first season as an assistant coach at Marymount in 2022-23. Bunduka comes to Arlington with a wealth of wrestling experience as both an athlete and a coach. Most recently, he spent the 2021-22 season coaching wrestling at Chantilly High School. He also served as a graduate assistant at Averett from 2018-20 and helped the team to a Top-20 national ranking. He worked closely with the lightweights and coached two NCAA qualifiers (125 lbs and 141 lbs). At NCAA Division I George Mason, Bunduka was a four-year starter at 125 pounds and qualified for the NCAA Championships twice. As a senior, he finished second in the league after finishing third as a junior. Also excelling in the international style of Greco-Roman, he made a push for the Senior-level World team in 2019, finishing fourth at both the U.S. Open and the World Team Trials at 55 kilograms. In 2014, Bunduka finished second at the FILA Junior World Team Trials for Greco and ended up fourth at the University trials in 2015. Bunduka graduated from Mason in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and Infrastructure. A native of Alexandria, Va., Bunduka attended what is now known as Alexandria City High School.

Alex Vergara
Assistant Coach
Coach Vergara is in his 4th season with the Marymount coaching staff after joining during the inaugural 2022-23 season. Prior to joining the college ranks, he was a head coach at 2 separate programs including Lightridge HS (Aldie, VA) and Bishop Denis J. O'Connell HS (Arlington, VA). He was the first head at Lightridge during the school's grand opening in 2020. He and his staff laid a strong foundation along with the school's very first state medalist in any sport ever. While at Bishop O'Connell, he produced 15 state medalists with 10 of them being National Prep qualifiers. In a span of 4 seasons, he overhauled the level of competition, streamlined operations, and strengthened the budget for the program. Vergara also operated a club that provided opportunities for local wrestlers to meet and train under dozens of NCAA Champions, All-Americans, World Team members, clinicians, and college coaches. In addition to his roles as a head coach, he served as an assistant at Gunston Wrestling Club, Thomas Edison HS (Alexandria, VA), and St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School (Alexandria, VA). During his 4 years with Edison HS, the program produced 6 state medalists, including 2 state champions. While at SSSAS, they produced 9 state medalists, including 6 National Prep qualifiers over the course of 2 years. Coach Vergara currently resides in Alexandria with his wife and 2 children. He holds an M.Ed. from Marymount and a B.A. from Longwood University.
