Mike Clark

Head Coach

Clark has been the head coach for the men's and women's swim teams since 1991. During his tenure, both the men and women's teams have set every team record in school history. Both teams have finished as high as second in the Capital Athletic Conference and consistently finish in the top half at the conference championships. Numerous MU swimmers have won all conference honors. Clark has been named CAC Coach of the Year three times. Coach Clark's philosophy in guiding the team is to provide a positive and enthusiastic swimming experience that enhances each athlete's overall college experience by encouraging physical, mental and moral development. Clark's other goals for the program include: creating and developing strong interpersonal relationships among team members; creating an environment that encourages each student-athlete to identify goals and the tasks associated with their achievement; and teaching the necessary life skills to insure future success. "Our swimming results -- best times, conference championships, NCAA qualifying times, all conference honors are a measure of how well we accomplish the above goals." Prior to coming to Marymount, Clark was an assistant swim coach for two years at James Madison University. He is a 1984 graduate of JMU, where he served as team captain for two years and was the team record holder in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, the 400 IM and a member of the 400 Medley Relay. Clark was the only swimmer in the JMU history to receive the Most Valuable Swimmer award three consecutive years. Clark also was a senior national qualifier in the 200 breaststroke. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Clark supervises several other programs at Marymount including the Masters swim program, a developmental level program for pre-competitive swimmers and the Marymount swim school. Clark lives in Manassas, Virginia with his wife Theresa and their three children Chris, Ashley and Brian.
