Glenn Paulus

Assistant Coach

Paulus is the head coach of both the Saints men's and women's golf teams. He is in his 11th year as the head coach of the men's golf program, and in the summer of 2015, added the duties as head coach of the Saints women's golf team. His 2007 and 2009 men's squads captured the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championship and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships. The 2009 team took 21st at the NCAA Championships, the best finish in program history. Paulus' 2009-10 squad was selected as Academic National Champions by the Golf Coaches Association of America. In 2006, Paulus' squad boasted one of the top freshman classes in NCAA Division III, including SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, Nick Profancik, who then went on to be crowned SLIAC champion and Player of the Year in 2007, 2008 and 2009. He has coached a two-time PING All-American (Profancik) and two golfers, Profancik and Sam Carlson, have earned Academic All-American honors. Before coming to Maryville, Paulus was a touring professional golfer, competing on the Heartland Players Senior Tour, DP Tour and the Emerald Coast Tour. He was also a finalist in 2001 at the Senior PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. Paulus' coaching and teaching experience includes two years as an assistant golf coach at St. Louis University and five years as an apprentice PGA Professional at Mid Rivers Golf Links in St. Peters, Mo. Prior to his professional golf career, Paulus spent 25 years in the commercial finance business with ITT Corporation serving in various credit, marketing and management positions, the last five years as Senior Vice President, Division Manager. Paulus, who attended the University of Minnesota, resides in Lake St. Louis, Mo., with his wife, Nancy.

Scott Thomas

Assistant Coach

Following the conclusion of the 2024-25 seasons, Scott Thomas announced he was retiring as head coach of the Maryville men's and women's golf teams. He will remain on staff as an assistant coach. Prior to the start of the 2019-20 season, Thomas was promoted to head coach for both the Saints men’s and women’s golf teams. He had served as the assistant coach for both programs since 2015.   Thomas helped lead the Saints men’s team to three straight NCAA Tournaments and the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference championship, and he guided the women's team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2025.. He has coached three All-GLVC selections, one Freshman of the Year and one All-Midwest selection. The Saints have garnered four individual Academic All-American awards and two team Academic All-America honors. For the women’s team, Thomas helped Carmen Villaverde earn a berth to the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf East Regional and All-GLVC honors in 2019. The Saints women have been awarded the WGCA All-Scholar Team Award three times and 13 individual selections. As a player, Thomas had a successful career as an amateur golfer at the local, state and national levels. He has won the Missouri Amateur, Missouri Mid-Amateur, and Missouri Senior Amateur Championship, St. Louis District Men’s and Senior Championship, and the Metropolitan Senior Amateur Championship. He was named the 1992 St. Louis Post-Dispatch Amateur Player of the Year and the 2008 Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association Senior Player of the Year.  Thomas has competed in six R&A Amateur Championships and 12 USGA Championships. Thomas is a Certified Mental Game Coaching Professional and Chairman of the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association Advisory Committee. He is a 1981 graduate of St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn. Thomas played four seasons for the Huskies men’s golf team, the last two years as team captain.
