Gretchen Moser
Head Coach
Maryville University Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation Lonnie Folks named Gretchen Moser as head coach of the Saints volleyball program prior to the 2018 season. She has been the director of the nationally-ranked Rockwood Thunder Volleyball Club program since 2004 and just completed the 2017-18 club season coaching 17 Mizuno and 12 Mizuno. In her first season directing the Saints, Moser helped the Saints double their win total from the previous season. Moser has overseen all volleyball operations for Rockwood Thunder Volleyball Club encompassing 47 teams, 70 coaches and more than 600 athletes. She has coached 15 teams that ended their seasons ranked first in the Gateway Region over the last 15 years. Moser has qualified 16 teams to compete at the USAV National Tournament. Of those 16 teams, 10 of those qualified at the highest level (Open) at USAV Nationals and seven finished in the Top 20 on a national basis. Moser coached the 16 Mizuno team in 2014 and won the USAV National Championship. In the high school ranks, Moser started her coaching career at Ursuline Academy from 1991-1993 and guided the program at Rosary High School from 1993-1994 and 1998-2003. She returned to Ursuline in 2013 and led the Bears to a district championship and a berth in sectionals. Moser served previously as a volunteer assistant coach at East Central College in 2007. She is IMPACT Certified and holds a CAP III certification. Moser graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education from Missouri Baptist University. She was an Academic All-Conference volleyball selection and was on both the Dean’s List and the National Dean’s List.

Mike Haston
Head Coach
Mike Haston enters his fifth season as head coach of the Maryville University men’s volleyball program and his 19th year coaching at the NCAA level. He has led the Saints since the program’s inception at the NCAA Division I level in 2022 and continues to build one of the Midwest’s fastest-growing men’s volleyball programs. During the 2025 season, Haston guided Maryville to a 19–9 record and a runner-up finish at the IVA Conference Tournament. Under his leadership, the Saints have accumulated 70 total wins since the program’s launch. Across his tenure, Maryville has produced 10 All-Conference selections, including two First Team honorees, earned 11 Player of the Week awards and received four AVCA Team Academic Awards, highlighting success both on the court and in the classroom. Prior to becoming the inaugural head coach of the men’s volleyball program, Haston spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Maryville women’s volleyball team at the NCAA Division II level. He previously served as head men’s volleyball coach at Fontbonne University beginning in 2013, concluding his tenure as the program’s all-time winningest coach with a 51–29 record over his final three seasons. Haston also worked as an assistant coach at Fontbonne from 2007 to 2013. Haston brings extensive experience at the high school and club levels. He served five years as the varsity head coach at Fox High School in Arnold, Missouri, and coached with St. Louis High Performance Volleyball. A St. Louis native, Haston was a standout player at Parkway North High School, helping lead the program to back-to-back Missouri State Championships in 2001 and 2002. He continued his playing career at the University of Tennessee, competing in club volleyball from 2003 to 2007, and was inducted into the UT Club Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2018. Haston earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree in special education from Webster University. He is USAV IMPACT certified, holds a USA Volleyball CAP Level 2 certification, and has coached at volleyball camps nationwide, including Colorado State, as well as with the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program.

Ben Briney
Assistant Coach
Ben Briney joined the Maryville women's volleyball staff as an assistant coach the summer of 2025. He came to the Saints after four seasons as the head coach at Westminster Christian Academy in St. Louis. Briney worked previously in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as he was the head coach at Truman State University for 12 seasons. At WCA, Briney guided the Wildcats to two Missouri State Class 4 State championships, three district titles and four straight Metro League Conference championships. He directed WCA to a program record for wins with 32 and was a two-time MSHSAA Coach of the Year. Briney was the 2022 AVCA Region 6 Coach of the Year and the 2021 and 2022 Missouri State High School Volleyball Coaches Association Class 4 Coach of the Year. With the Wildcats, he directed seven All-State players, three All-Region players, and one AVCA All-American. Briney compiled 245 wins at Truman State and led the Bulldogs to six NCAA Tournament appearances. He coached 40 total selections to All-GLVC teams. In addition, he guided middle blocker Megan Sharpe to becoming TSU’s first four-time AVCA all-American, including the National Freshman of the Year in 2009. Two players from his 2014 squad - Allie Brak and Ali Patterson - earned back-to-back AVCA All-American accolades. In 2014, he earned GLVC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Bulldogs to the Midwest region’s No. 1 seed and a 29-4 overall record. He coached Brak to the GLVC’s Player of the Year award, while Abby Moser was named the GLVC’s Libero of the Year, as well. The Bulldogs won the GLVC West Division with a 17-1 record and claimed the tournament title. Briney coached nine different players who were named AVCA All-Americans at Truman State. During his tenure as an assistant, the Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament in all four seasons, won two South Central regional championships and advanced to the national semifinals in 2008. He helped coached two players to MIAA MVP awards and led the team to its first No. 1 ranking in the AVCA top-25 coaches’ poll in school history. Prior to Truman State, Briney was an assistant coach for the Carolina Region Junior High Performance Team – a feeder program for the U.S. National Team – during the summers of 2004 and 2005. He served as an assistant coach for two seasons at Division II St. Andrews College in North Carolina. St. Andrews, he helped lead the Knights to a 40-25 overall record and a trip to the conference finals in 2003. The following year, the team tied a school record with 14 conference victories and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Briney coached seven all-conference athletes at St. Andrews and one conference freshman of the year. The Knights also excelled academically during his final two seasons, ranking 10th in the nation in 2003 with a 3.54 team GPA. Briney graduated from Southwest Baptist University in 2001 with a bachelor’s of science degree in sport management and a minor in Psychology. He became a certified athletic trainer in April of 2002 prior to earning his Masters of Education from SBU in 2004. That same year, he passed his strength and conditioning test to gain CSCS credentials from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
