Dave Hagymas
Head Coach
Hagymas, a five-time NEWMAC Coach of the Year, enters his 12th season at the helm of the MIT mens varsity tennis program. During the 2015-16 campaign, Hagymas guided the Engineers to an overall record of 16-5, a perfect 6-0 mark in NEWMAC play and the programs 18th conference championship. MIT advanced to the regional final of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since the 2011-12 season after defeating No. 21 Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-2, in the second round. In his time with the Engineers, Hagymas has directed the team to a NEWMAC Championship and trips to the NCAA Tournament in each of his 11 seasons. During his tenure at MIT, he has compiled an overall record of 166-49 in dual matches, inclduing an 98-1 mark in conference play. Prior to his arrival at MIT, Hagymas was an assistant coach at Duke University from 1992-04. In his first season with the Blue Devils, he worked with the womens team before beginning an 11-year stint with the mens squad. During his tenure with the mens team, he helped guide the Blue Devils to a top-10 national ranking each season and nine Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) championship titles. In 1997, Hagymas was named the Regional Assistant Coach of the Year and then earned national accolades in 2001. Hagymas graduated from Coastal Carolina University, formerly University of South Carolina at Coastal, in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. He earned Big South All-Conference honors while playing for the Chanticleers.
