Jon Froelich
Assistant Coach
Froelich has built a solid basketball reputation. The 1997 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Coach of the Year, Froelich has coached at the high school and college level, and has also been very active in AAU basketball, taking numerous teams to national tournaments. In his first two seasons at MCC, the Lady Indians had several outstanding individual accomplishments, with nine players earning Academic All-Region honors last season. Four players from the 2013-2014 team moved on and are now playing at a four-year college or university level, including Cydnee Ceballos at Division 1 Seattle University. A total of thirteen players have earned Academic-All-Region and Academic NCCAC honors over the past two seasons. Six players have earned all Nebraska Community College honors while playing for Froelich, with three players being named to the All-Region IX squads, including Chante Church and Kendra Baucom (All-Defensive Team) from the 2014-2015 team. Church, Baucom and Lucia Archuleta were all named to the Omaha World Herald All-Nebraska team, with Church also being chosen to represent MCC in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Coaches All-Star Weekend in July (2015). The Lady Indians finished in the top 20 in the nation (NJCAA) last year in both three-point baskets made and three-point percentage. Teams coached by Froelich consistently rank at the top of the class as it relates to academics. The 2014-2015 team finished the year with a team grade point average of 3.43, good for 11th in the country. Many of the teams coached by Froelich have been ranked as some of the top defensive teams in the state of Texas. He has coached three state championship teams, and his clubs have won 21 district titles. He has had over 100 former players go on to play at a four-year college or university. Froelich currently has 786 wins as a head coach. His 2012-2013 squad at Fort Bend Christian Academy (Sugar Land, Texas) set a school record for wins in a season with 41, advancing to the state championship game, while winning the District, Bi-District, Area, and Regional Championships. A noted clinician and camp speaker, Froelich has also taken teams representing the United States of America to compete on the international level in Australia, Sweden, Finland, the former Soviet Union, Germany, Holland and Belgium. In addition to his undergraduate degree from KU, Froelich also has a Masters Degree in School Counseling from Dallas Baptist University.
