Kevin Gill

Head Coach

Gill and the Highlander squad. MCC defeated Marion Military Institute in the opening round, marking the programs first national tournament victory. Under Gills watch, the Highlanders are 345-99, for a 77 percent winning percentage. Gill collected his 400th career victory as a head coach in 2012 and received his 500th win in 2016. Those accomplishments garnered Gill conference Coach of the Year honors in 2006, 2010, 2011 and 2014, and Co-Coach of the Year honors in 2007. He has seen 57 players named all-conference, two players earn NJCAA All-American honors and Aundre Jackson was named to the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team in 2016. In 2014, Gill was named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Junior College Coach of the Year, after leading the Highlanders to a 28-3 record. Gill came to McLennan from Wacos La Vega High School. In three years at his alma mater, Gill led the Pirates to a 92-11 record and a state championship for the first time in the schools history. Before La Vega, Gill was head coach at Hubbard High School, where he helped the Jaguars advance to the state playoffs for the first time in 10 years with a 25-7 record. In his six years as a high school coach, he compiled a record of 167-33. Gill began his coaching career in 1993 at Lake Air Middle School in Waco and was an assistant at La Vega for two years before moving to Hubbard. Gill graduated from Paul Quinn College in 1990. In 1998, he earned his masters degree from Prairie View A&M University. Jamaal Greene

Assistant Coach

Bio Jamaal Greene became the assistant coach for the McLennan Highlanders’ basketball program in 2011. Since joining the staff, Greene has helped lead the Highlanders to four second-place finishes and six North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Championships (NTJCAC), including three consecutive championships from 2016 to 2018, and 13 regional tournament appearances. McLennan’s success on the court garnered Greene the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Junior College Assistant Coach of the Year honor in 2018. In 2016, Greene helped lead the Highlanders to the program’s first appearance at the Division I NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas since 1998. In Hutch (the well-known moniker for the tournament), the Highlanders defeated Marion Military Institute, marking the program’s first national-tournament victory. In Greene’s 13-year tenure with the Highlanders, the team has a combined record of 294-73 for an 80-percent winning percentage. Those teams have featured four NJCAA All-Americans and seven NJCAA All-Academic Team honorees. Before joining the McLennan staff, Greene spent four years as an assistant coach at Midland College. During his stint there, the Chaparrals made two consecutive trips to the NJCAA National Championships, captured three West Junior College Athletic Conference titles and compiled a 123-13 record in four years. The Caribbean Basketball Network named Greene the 2010-11 Coach of the Year for his tremendous work with student-athletes in the region. Greene served as a graduate assistant coach at Harding University (Arkansas) before moving to Midland. He also worked as a color commentator for NBA-TV for two years. A native of Freeport, Bahamas, Greene won silver and gold medals with the Bahamian Junior National basketball teams in 1998 and 2000, respectively, before graduating from Coconut Creek High School (Florida) in 2000. He continued his basketball career at Northwest College (Wyoming), Arkansas Tech University and Harding. Greene received his bachelor’s degree in communication management from Harding in 2005 and a master’s degree in kinesiology from Harding in 2007. He and his wife, Kari, have a daughter, Jayada, and a son, Kanaan, both students at China Spring.
