Brad Douwes
Head Coach
Brad Douwes, a Hamilton local in his first season as Head Coach of the McMaster Marauders, previously led the Redeemer Royals men's volleyball team from 2013 to 2021. During his time with the Royals, Douwes was named the 2017 OCAA Men's Volleyball Coach of the Year and, the following season, was recognized as the 2018 OCAA Men's Volleyball West Division Coach of the Year. He also guided the men's volleyball team to three OCAA medals, locking in a second-place national ranking during the 2012-13 season. Douwes then left Redeemer and subsequently joined the Marauders men's volleyball coaching staff for the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach under Dave Preston. Brad Douwes played at Redeemer from 2006 to 2010 where he led the Royals to their first Division I medal in program history in 2009-10. He was a two-time Academic All-Canadian, an OCAA All-Star every season (including three as a First Team All-Star) as well as Redeemer 's MVP in both 2008/09 and 2009/10. He closed out his varsity career with an OCAA bronze medal in his senior year. He graduated with an honours degree in kinesiology and psychology before completing a Master of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration at Concordia University Irvine. While coaching at Redeemer, Douwes also took over the reigns of the Royals' women's volleyball program in 2014, a position he held for seven seasons. In addition to coaching collegiate volleyball, Douwes also has extensive experience with Team Ontario. Beginning as a Regional Program Head Coach in 2017 and 2018, Douwes then became an assistant coach with Team Ontario Red in 2019 before being elevated to Head Coach for both the 2020 and 2022 seasons. This year, he has taken over bench boss duties for Team Ontario Black.

Austin Campion-Smith was recognized as a Second-Team All-Canadian and First-Team OUA All-Star ... Alex Elliot was named to the OUA Second Team ... Stephen Maar and Jayson McCarthy joined Demyanenko on the OUA All-Rookie Team. Posted a 15-3 record to finish second in the OUA... won their OUA Quarter-final against the York Lions, 3-1 in their home gym... At the Final Four, lost to Queen's in the semifinals, 3-1... Alex Elliott was named to both the CIS and OUA All-Rookie Teams and was OUA Rookie of the Year... Daniel Groenveld was also named to the All-Rookie Team and brother Jeremy Groenveld ended his McMaster career as an OUA Second-Team All-Star.. McMaster earned the OUA title once again for the third time in four years...Beat out the defending champion Queen's Gaels in the semifinals before defeating the Western Mustangs in their home gym for the championship.. finished the regular season with 16-4 record, tied for second place with Queen's.. Tyler Santorini named first team OUA All-Star and earned OUA Championship MVP.. Josh Lichty was named second team OUA All-Star... Jori Mantha and Austin Campion-Smith named to OUA All-Rookie team.. finished sixth at CIS Championships with a win and two losses. Finished first in the league with a record of 17-3...Upset 3-2 by Guelph Gryphons in OUA semifinal... Jeremy Groenveld and Tyler Santoni where selected first team of OUA All-Stars while Ryan Hudson was named to the second team and Kevin Stevens to the All-Rookie team...Groenveld added another All-Canadian team selection to his volleyball resume with his second consecutive appearance on the CIS second team. McMaster concluded the CIS Championship with the highest finish in program history; they finished fourth after a four set defeat in the consolation round against the Brandon Bobcats...Jeremy Groenveld was named a CIS second team All-Canadian... The Marauders picked up their second consecutive OUA Championship after coming from behind in game one and then defeating the Queen's Golden Gaels 3-1 in game two... Jeremy Groenveld, Nathan Groenveld and Peter Hrkal were named OUA first team All-Stars... Shayne Petrusma was added to the OUA All-Rookie roster...Hrkal was the recipient of the OUA Dale Iwanoczko Sportsman Award.
