Cameron Magnall

Head Coach

Magnall has been the head cross country coach at McPherson College since 2011 and also serves as the distance coach for the track and field program. The head track and field coach from 2011-2015, he recently transitioned into an assistant's role with the track program as the programs numbers have grown significantly. MC has produced nineteen NAIA All-Americans since Coach Magnall's arrival. His 2016 cross country teams finished third on the men's side and ninth on the womens side in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC). For the second straight season, the Bulldogs will be sending three athletes (two men, one woman) to nationals. His 2014 cross country teams finished fourth on the men's side and seventh on the womens; the Lady 'Dogs sent one runner to Nationals. For the second-straight year, the MC men's track & field team finished runner-up at the KCAC Indoor Championships, taking second by 12.5 points; the women came in fifth.  Mac track & field sent four athletes to the National Championships.  In the outdoor season, the Bulldogs were shorthanded at the conference meet, placing third for the men and seventh for the women; two athletes went to Nationals with Art Hop claiming NAIA All-American status with his seventh place finish. After finishing runner-up at the KCAC Indoor Championships, the 2014 conference outdoor championships were a sight to see for Bulldog Nation as both the men's and women's McPherson track & field squads brought home KCAC Championship trophies; the men's team won by 25 points while the women's crew grabbed the top spot by seven. After earning two All-America honors at the NAIA Indoor Championships, McPherson sent 17 athletes to the outdoor meet and brought back five plaques. Magnall came to McPherson with six years of head coaching experience at Falcon High School in Falcon, Colo. At Falcon, Magnall guided the boys cross country team to a 2008 4A Colorado State Championship and earned 2008 Rocky Mountain News All-Colorado and Denver Post All-Colorado Coach of the Year Honors. He had previously led the squad to state appearances in 2005 and 2006. On the track, Magnall has had similar success with four All-Americans, five individual state champions and 58 state qualifiers. His most recent state champion came in 2009 at the boys' 3,200m. Magnall, an Iowa native, competed as a student-athlete at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., before graduating in 2005 with a bachelors degree in K-12 education with an emphasis in German and Spanish. He is in the process of completing a masters degree from Adams State College in coaching.   He lives in McPherson with his three kids Delfino, Serenity and Jacob. Ermelinda Spies

Assistant Coach

Spies joined the McPherson College track and field coach staff in 2012.  Her jumpers have recorded 21 First Team All-KCAC and two NAIA All-American honors; they have also broken six MC records.  During her tenure, she has coached 20 All-KCAC Championship performers Prior to McPherson, Coach Spies spent seven years coaching at Pittsburg State University (Kan.) where the Gorillas had three NCAA runner-ups, 18 All-Americans, 62 national qualifiers, 13 MIAA individual conference champions and 12 school records broken. As a team, Pittsburg won the 2005 MIAA conference championship and finished amongst the top 20 six times at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.   Prior to Pittsburg, Spies was the horizontal jumps coach at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) for three seasons. During her tenure, Spies coached three triple jump conference champions, five sprint champions and 10 Big South all-conference performers.   Spies has her masters degree in exercise physiology from Fort Hays State University (Kan.), As a graduate assistant for FHSU, Spies assisted with jumps, sprints and hurdles events and coached numerous NCAA All-Americans and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) champions.   As an athlete, Spies represented her native country of Albania for five years in the European and world track and field arena, including representing the nation in the 1994 World Championships and the 1994 European Junior Championships. She was a four-time NCAA Champion in the triple jump and nine-time NCAA Division II All-American in the long jump and triple jump at Western State College (Colo.). Additionally, she was named the 1999 NCAA Division II Athlete of the Year and Western State inducted her into its Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.  In 2015, Spies was inducted into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame for her acomplishments as an athlete.   Spies received her bachelors degree in history from Western State in 1999. In 2002, she received her Level I Track and Field Coaching Certification from USA Track and Field, before adding a Level II Jumps certification a year later. She is married to Robert, the Interim Head T&F Coach at McPherson College, and they have two children, Davian and Sofia

Robert Spies

Assistant Coach

Spies made his way to the McPherson College track & field staff in 2013; he earned the Interim Head Track & Field Coach title in the fall of 2015.   Spies brought with him over a decade of not only cross country and track & field experience, but also strength and conditioning experience.   During his short time at McPherson College h e has coached 30 KCAC champions, 21 National qualifiers, and six All-Americans.  His main areas of focus at MC are sprints, hurdles, relays, pole vault, and the throws. Prior to coming to the Bulldogs, Coach Spies was the head cross country and track & field coach at fellow KCAC institution Bethany College for three previos seasons.  While at BC, he was responsible for 58 all-conference performers, nine KCAC champions, eight NAIA National qualifiers, and two All-Americans; his athletes also broke 10 school records.
