Josh Sova

Sova led the Mavericks back to the postseason for the first time in four years (2011). He guided a team back to the postseason after they won a grand total of ten games in two seasons (2012-13). The Mavericks had three players named to the All-Conference Team in 2015 under his tutelage: , and . He also had a player named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America All-District Team: . S Since taking over, he has turned over the roster with an influx of new talent and in his first full season almost tripled the team's win total from the previous year as they won (14) games in 2014, despite season ending injuries to several key players. He also saw two of his players, and named to the All-AMCC team, the 11th and 12th players to be recognized to the all-conference team under him. Sova has also put a large emphasis on academics since taking over. This fall (Fall 2015), he oversaw a team with a cumluative GPA of (3.27) that saw (19) of his players have above a (3.0) and (12) make the Dean's List. Since 2013, he has had (18) players named to the Academic All-Conference Team. Sova is focused on changing the culture of the team. He envisions the team being known as the classiest and hardest working program in the AMCC. As an assistant, Sova had worked primarily with the team's position players on the fundamentals of hitting, fielding and base running. When Sova initailly joined the staff as an assistant, the team had improved the first three seasons (2009-11) in wins, team batting average, team on-base percentage, and team fielding percentage. Before joining the Medaille Staff, Sova attended St. Bonaventure University where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education and was a mainstay on the Atlantic 10 Commissioners Honor Roll and the St. Bonaventure Deans List. While at St. Bonaventure, he was a four-year letter-winner on the baseball team and helped the Bonnies win their first Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and make their first NCAA Regional Appearance (2004). He was also a member of the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference runners up. He enjoyed most of his personal success in his last two seasons as he became a regular in the line-up. Sova led the team and ranked second in the Atlantic 10 with a (.398) batting average in conference contests in 2008 and finished out his senior campaign with a (.990) fielding percentage. Before playing collegiately, Sova was twice named to the All-New York State Team as a catcher; two-time All-WNY; Named three times to the 1st team All-Niagara Frontier League in baseball. Sova also was a member of the 2002 Western Region Empire State Team which won the Gold Medal. He currently still plays as a player/coach in the Buffalo AAA MUNY summer league for the Pignataro's Taxmen. Sova also oversees the Sports Information Department at Medaille since being hired full-time at Medaille in 2014. Sova also received his Master's Degree in Special Education at Medaille in December of 2012. He graduated with a (3.98) GPA. He currently resides in Tonawanda, NY.
