Rodney Carr

Head Coach

The Medgar Evers Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Rodney Carr as the program's head women's basketball coach in mid-September. Director of Athletics Chetara Murphy spoke glowingly when asked about Carr's appointment prior to the 2021-2022 campaign. "Rodney is a basketball lifer who has tremendous passion for the sport, and for seeing student-athletes reaching their full potential," Murphy said. "He is a veteran of working in the CUNY Athletic Conference, and he brings a wealth of championship success and experience with him to our institution. We're excited to have him aboard, and look forward to him continuing to cement his legacy here at Medgar Evers." Carr, who has 34 years of coaching experience at various levels, kept it very transparent when asked about what becoming the head coach at Medgar Evers meant to him. "Having the opportunity to be the head coach for a basketball team at Medgar Evers is truly a dream for me," Carr said. "I grew up in this neighborhood. And while I've enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in other boroughs (Manhattan and the Bronx), I haven't had the opportunity to succeed collegiately in Brooklyn yet, and now I'll have the opportunity to do that. I'm looking forward to putting my heart and soul into this, and building a team that Brooklyn can be proud of." Carr's basketball resume speaks for itself.
