Mercyhurst University Women's Water Polo

Robinette enters his 14th season with the Mercyhurst womens water polo program. Since taking over in 2003, Robinette has guided the Lakers to over 100 wins and double-digit victories in ten of his past 13 seasons. Last season the Lakers won a dozen of 25 games. Eleven players were selected to the ACWPC All-Academic Team as the squad had the 10th highest GPA in the nation. Freshman Kennedy Watson was a CWPA Honorable Mention, one of only two non-Division members of the group. Watson was also chosen First Team All-Academic by the ACWPC.  Mercyhurst won nine games in the 2014 campaign, as the Lakers won the CWPA Division II Championship. Senior Cailin Jope earned All-CWPA Second Team honors after putting up 53 goals and 17 assists. Allie Grimes also finished her Laker career in 2014, setting a school record by appearing in 108 matches. The Lakers won 14 games in 2013, including two wins over Gannon. Lisett Calderon wrapped up her career with a strong senior year, totaling 99 points and being named All-CWPA Southern Division Second Team. In her four seasons, she scored 190 goals, amon g the best in school history. Her 306 points and 116 assists are both among the top five in career numbers.   In 2012, the team continued its mastery of rival Gannon and senior goalie Hope Rozelle completed her record-setting career. Rozelle finished with a Mercyhurst-record 956 saves in 92 matches. As a senior, she broke her own school record with 333 saves as she played all 31 matches. Lisett Calderon totaled 63 goals and 81 points on her way to being named all-CWPA Second Team. In 2011, the Lakers posted a 16-10 record, including three wins over crosstown rival Gannon. Mercyhurst also beat Division I programs Siena, Villanova, and Bucknell. During the 2010 campaign, the Lakers achieved a great deal despite finishing with a 10-13 record. Robinette guided the Lakers to a perfect 4-0 mark over Erie-rivals Penn State Behrend and Gannon and helped the team capture victories over Division I-rival Villanova and surging Grove City. Following the season, rookie Lisett Calderon became the first player since Rachel Griepsma to earn CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Year and Griepsma was tabbed a First Team All-American for the second time in her career. Robinette has had many marquee accomplishments since arriving at Mercyhurst. In 2006, the program set a single-season wins record with a 15-8-1 mark, and in 2008, the Lakers came one win shy of tying that record with a 14-9 season. That squad captured third place at the CWPA Western Division Championship and became the first Division II team to qualify for the Eastern Championship since 2004. For his efforts, Robinette was named CWPA Western Division Coach of the Year. As noted previously, his teams also excel in the classroom The 2006 team finished second in the nation among women's water polo teams with a 3.41 grade-point average and the 2007 edition was third at 3.35. Robinette, who graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2002, was a standout player for The Rock. He was a four-year varsity award winner and team captain for two seasons. He received the Dr. Richard Hunkler Water Polo Scholarship. After four years of coaching swimming in both Slippery Rock and Toledo, Ohio, Robinette made his debut as a water polo coach for the second-year Laker squads in the fall of 2002 and the spring of 2003. Robinette, a native of Maumee, Ohio, resides in Erie with his wife, Molly. They have two sons, Owen and Finn. Owen was born in 2011 and Finn in 2013.
