Amy Weaver
Head Coach
Weaver's 20th campaign as head coach of Messiah College softball. A 1991 Messiah graduate, Weaver has led the Falcons to 10-straight appearances in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament and two separate appearances in the NCAA Division III Softball Championships. This past season (2016) the Falcons finisehd with a program-record 47 wins en route to finishing as the Division III National Runner-Up. Along the way Messiah went undefeated (16-0) in the conference regular-season, won the MAC Commonwealth Championship, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in eight seasons. The terrific showing has only been bested by Weaver's 2009 club that won the Division III National Championship. That year, Weaver guided the program to a 43-4 record, concluding the year on a 23-game winning streak a program record. The program's consistent success on the national stage has earned Weaver the NFCA Regional Coach Staff of the Year honor on five separate occassions, the most recent being in both 2011 and 2016. In 2009 the staff was named the NFCA Coaching Staff of the Year. Weaver's 300th career win came in the Falcons 2009 title game, and she's added more than 200 victories since; she won her 400th game on April 10, 2012, in a 10-3 win over Hood College; the 500th win came on Mar. 7, 2016, in a 10-4 win over Alfred State. We are just as concerned with bringing in great people as we are great athletes, Weaver said. I think that makes us unique. Our players have to buy into the team aspect here they need to want to serve a bigger purpose. Our program doesnt work if they dont. We want to win, of course, but we feel winning is a byproduct of how we go about doing things. Playing softball here is much bigger than what happens on the field. When players leave, we want them to feel that Messiah softball changed their lives forever. While playing with the Falcons as a student-athlete, Weaver was four-year starter in the outfield, leading the conference in doubles (20) as a senior while hitting at a .469 average. She then served as an assistant coach for five years, taking a one-year hiatus in 1997 before accepting the head coaching position at the outset of the 1998 campaign. During her tenure, Messiah has won four conference championships and finished as runners-up three times. Weaver has been named the Commonwealth Coach of the Year on five occasions 1998, 1999, 2003, 2009, and 2015, and, as mentioned, she's been named Regional Coach of the Year in 1998, 1999, 2009, 2011, and 2016. Weaver has coached 10 NFCA All-Americans and 60 NFCA All-Region selections during her tenure, including a multitude of all-conference performers. In 2016 the Falcons' program also earned a first in College history as senior Courtney Allen was named CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year. Weaver graduated from Messiah with a bachelors degree in business administration. She then obtained her masters degree in sports management from McDaniel College in the spring of 1998. Weaver is married to her husband of more than 20 years, Mike, and the couple has three children: Seth, Emily, and Drew. The family resides in nearby Dillsburg.
