Roland Whiting
Head Coach
Whiting enters his fourth season as head coach of the mens womens track and field programs in 2015. He also previously served as the head men's and women's cross country teams for his first three seasons. In his first three seasons at MU, Whiting has seen a pair of athletes qualify for the NCAA Track & Field Championships, and he led the mens cross country team to a second-place finish at the 2013 conference championships. In 2013, Reggie Scales qualified in 12th place (10.66) for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships in the 100m dash and wound up finishing 14th nationally with a time of 10.83. The following year, Donte Smith qualified for the Outdoor Championships in the 400m with a time of 48.21. He finished in 15th place after running a time of 48.85 in the prelims. On the cross country side, MU led the 2013 mens team to a second-place finish as both Sydney Machokoto and Eduardo Riera earned First Team All-USA South honors with third and fourth-place finishes, respectively. The second-place finish marked the highest finish for the Monarchs since a second-place finish in 2006. Whiting spent the previous four seasons as head coach of the mens and womens cross country teams at Neumann University. He joined Neumann when the programs were reinstated in 2008 following a seven-year hiatus. After his first year, the Knights decided to add track and field and Whiting built the program from the ground up coaching both programs his final two years. Whiting worked to build both programs during his tenure at Neumann. Most recently, the womens cross country team placed fourth at the conference championships. Since the reinstatement of cross country the program has produced more than 30 All-Academic Conference athletes. In the Knights short track and field history, Whitings programs began to receive national and regional recognition with their first NCAA track and field championships appearance, which produced their first All-American. Whiting also coached six All-ECAC performers and 18 Mason Dixon All-Conference performers. Before coaching at Neumann, Whiting was an assistant coach on Lincolns 2007 NCAA Division III national championship indoor team. Whiting helped to train several All-American athletes at Lincoln including 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year finalist Ashley Parker. Whiting was a 12-time All-American and a member of five NCAA Division III national championship teams as a student-athlete at Lincoln. He is also a member of the school record 4x100-meter relay team. Whiting earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education & Recreation. Prior to returning to Lincoln, Whiting was an assistant track and field coach at Widener University, where he helped the Pride win three Middle-Atlantic Conference championships. He also coached four All-Americans and a host of national championship qualifiers. Whiting also coached at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia where he produced nine all-Catholic athletes and five state qualifiers. Whiting is a member of USTFCCCA and USATF associations.

Tazz Petty
Assistant Coach
Petty joins the coaching staff for the 2011-12 season as a volunteer assistant. Petty competed with the Monarchs from 2005-09 earning six Mason Dixon Conference Championships during his tenure. Petty qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2008 and 2009 and finished as a five-time All-American. He placed in the top eight twice in the 55 meters indoor and twice in the 100 meters outdoor while adding All-American honors in the 4x100 meter relay as well. He currently holds school records in the 55 meters (6.34) and 60 meters (6.80) and was a part of the school record relay teams in the 4x100 and 4x200. His school record time in the 60 meters also ranks 10th in Division III history all-time. Since wrapping up his career at Methodist, Petty has continued to compete in track and field meets over the last three years. Most recently, he qualified for the 2012 USA Indoor Championships and advanced to the semifinals of the 60 meters with a 6.73 seconds preliminary time. He currently boasts personal bests of 6.21 in the 55 and 6.73 in the 60 along with a 10.33 in the 100 meters.

William Helms
Assistant Coach
Helms joined his alma mater's cross country and track and field staff in August 2013. In addition to his responsibities at MU, he also works at College Lakes Elementary in Fayetteville as a first grade teacher. Helms graduated from Methodist in May 2006 with a degree in elementary education. As a college student-athlete, he competed on three Monarch cross country teams that qualified for NCAA Southeast Regionals, and earned All-Mason-Dixon Conference honors for the distance medley relay in track and field. Helms earned his master's degree in physical education-sports administration at the Univeristy of North Carolina at Pembroke in December of 201 and currently holds a USATF Level II certification.

Terry Wickham
Assistant Coach
Coach Terry Wickham joined the staff of Methodist track and field programs in October 2019, and was named sprints, long jump, and triple jump coach. Prior to joining Methodist, Coach Wickham was head track and field coach of both boy’s and girl’s track programs at Pine Forest High School (Fayetteville, N.C.) for 15 years. In those15 years 20 Regional Champions, 45 All Regional Athletes, 66 Conference Champions, 115 All Conference Athletes, 23 All State Athletes, 8 NCHSAA 4A State Runners-Up, 15 NCHSAA 4A State Champions, 3 National Champions, Conference Men’s Track Coach of the Year four times. Prior to Pine Forest High School Coach Wickham was Head Girl’s Track Coach at Edison High School (Richmond Ohio,) Early Bird Champions, - 2003-2005, Jefferson County Champs, 2003-2005 District Runners-Up, 2004 OHSAA 4A two State Qualifiers first in school history, 2005 OHSAA 4A State Runner-up. Coach Wickham graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio with a degree in Elementary Education. He also attendant Muskingum University and Kent State University. As a college-athlete, Wickham competed in both indoor and outdoor track and field teams as a sprinter in 60 meter dash (PR. 6.89) 100 meter (10.61) 200 meter (21.44).
