Chris Adams
Head Coach
Adams Now through nine seasons at Middle Tennessee, head womens golf coach Chris Adams continues to lead the program to new heights. Adams has taken the program as high as No. 48 in the national rankings, while lowering the team scoring averages by almost 20 strokes across her nine seasons. The Blue Raiders won their second consecutive Conference USA Championship in 2016 to earn a berth in the NCAA Shoal Creek Regional as the No. 14 seed. Middle Tennessee took home three team titles in total during the 2015-16 campaign, capturing its fourth Blue Raider Invitational title in five years while also winning the Web.com Intercollegiate in its first appearance in the tournament. MT finished in the top four spots in eight of their 10 events during the season. Avery George became the eighth Blue Raider to take home an individual title under the leadership of Adams when she won the 2015 Blue Raider Invitational. Middle Tennessee notched eight individual finishes in the top five and 17 in the top 10 on the year. Adams was named Conference USA Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season in 2016 while five Blue Raiders were named All-Conference USA. Avery George, Samantha Gotcher and Emily Miller were all voted First Team All-C-USA while Jenna Burris and Hanley Long both made the Second Team. The Coach of the Year honor was the third for Adams, who was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2012 prior to Middle Tennessees move to C-USA. She has now coached 16 all-conference selections at Middle Tennessee (nine C-USA, seven Sun Belt). Adams has also led her players to excel in the classroom, coaching 16 Blue Raiders who have been named WGCA/NGCA All-American Scholars. In addition, she has had nine golfers named C-USA Academic Medal Winners (3.75-4.00 GPA) and 15 more named to the C-USA Commissioners Honor Roll (3.00-4.00 GPA). Prior to joining the C-USA, Adams coached 37 players who were named to the Sun Belt Commissioners List (3.50-4.00 GPA) and 20 more who were named to the Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 GPA). The Blue Raiders have also held a perfect 1000 APR for six consecutive seasons and eight of the last nine, all under the direction of Adams. In 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 the program was recognized for being in the top 10% of all NCAA Division I golf programs in APR. Prior to taking over the Middle Tennessee women's golf program in Dec. 2007, Adams served as the head women's golf coach at Arkansas State since April 2002. There, she developed two All-Sun Belt selections and led the team to its first tournament win since 2001 in Sept. 2007 at the ULM/Fred Marx Invitational. Her program was also successful in the classroom with four players being named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the Sun Belt's Commissioner's List. Prior to her time at Arkansas State, Adams served as head coach at Wichita State from 1997 to 2002 and led her teams to runner-up finishes in the Missouri Valley Conference in 1998 and 1999. While there, she helped lower the team scoring average by 10 strokes over a two-year period and led her team to scoring records in 1999, 2000, and 2001. During that span, she produced 10 all-conference selections and three first-team selections to the MVC All-Scholar team. She also had 16 Valley "Golfers of the Week" and 16 named to the Wichita State Athletics Director's Honor Roll. After beginning her golf career at John Jacobs Practical Golf School in Scottsdale, Ariz., Adams served as assistant golf professional at Bonaventure Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club in Plantation, Fla. A 1991 graduate of Kansas State, Adams received her bachelor's degree in psychology. She was a member of the varsity golf team and received the Lucille Boyd Scholarship for four years, which is awarded to the school's top female golfer. A native of Beaver, Okla., she earned all-state honors as a junior and senior in basketball and golf at Beaver High School.
