Erich Whitemore

Head Coach

Whitemore has been the assistant coach at Fremont High School since 2002 helping with both the mens and womens teams. Since 2005, he has served as just the mens assistant coach. During his tenure at Fremont High, he has helped develop five state championship teams, three individual state champions, three state runner-ups, and twenty-one state medalist. In the fall of 2011, Whitemore served as the interim head coach for the Warriors cross country team. Prior to Whitemores coaching experiences, he competed at the University of Nebraska - Kearney, where his teams finished in the top ten all four years. Whitemore is a two-time record holder and two-time all-conference selection for the Lopers. Whitemore has competed in six marathons with his personal best being two hours and forty four minutes. Whitemore resides in Fremont, Neb. Jim McMahon is beginning his 36th year as a coaching track and field at Midland University. During 1979-2007, McMahon served as the head coach of the men and women's track and field team. During his track tenure, he has won one NAIA National Championship (1989 Women's Indoor) was named the 1989 NAIA Women's Indoor Coach of the Year, and named the 1989 Coach of the Year. McMahon has also been named NAIA District Coach of the Year five times and NAIA Area Coach of the Year on three occasions. McMahon has groomed 24 NAIA National Champions and won 20 conference titles. All-in-all, 60 of McMahon's athletes have earned 195 NAIA All-American Awards and 54 have earned a total of 90 NAIA Scholar Athlete Awards. McMahon was inducted into the Midland University Hall of Fame in 1999 and was recently inducted into the NAIA Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2011. Prior to joining Midland, McMahon was a coach at Platte Community College in Columbus, Neb., from 1973-1978. McMahon received both his bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Jim and his wife, Karen, reside in Fremont, Neb.  Matt Maltby has been an assistant coach at Midland working with the throwers since the fall of 2003.  He is originally from Omaha and graduated from Dana College in 2003 with a B.A. in Business Management. While at Dana, Matt played football and competed in track & field.  During Matt's collegiate throwing career, he qualified for nationals a total of seven times in the shotput and was a three-time All-American. Maltby has volunteered at Dana College and worked with the Cornhusker Flyers.  Since Matt has been at Midland, he has coached five individuals who have accumulated 14 All-American honors.

Daniel Gerber

Head Coach

Gerber was an assistant at the College of Saint Scholastica (Minnesota) from 2013-2014, where he coached 16 Individual UMAC (Upper Midwest Athletic Conference) Champions, 32 All-Conference Individuals and saw 20 school records broken in just two seasons. Most notably, Gerber helped the Saints to consecutive Mens and Womens UMAC Indoor and Outdoor T&F Championships. From 2011 to 2012 Gerber was an assistant at Abilene Christian University. In his first season he helped guide the Wildcats to their 13th Mens Indoor T&F NCAA D-II National Championship, as well as overseeing 13 D-II All-Americans, 11 All-Lone Star Conference athletes and seven individual Lone Star Conference Champions. Gerber got his coaching career started at Eastern New Mexico University as a graduate assistant from 2009 to 2010. With the Greyhounds he saw 14 school records broken and earned his Masters in Exercise Science.  Originally from Belvidere, Illinois, Gerber saw success as a sprinter for Saint Marys University from 2004 to 2007 where he broke 11 school records. He earned his Bachelors degree in 2007. Whitemore serves as the cross country coordinator on the Warriors coaching staff.
