Rodney Bivens
Coach
Rodney Bivens enters his sixth season with the Golden Bears. He will coach wide receivers for the fourth consecutive season after serving as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2015. Prior to Miles, he served five years as receivers coach at Tuskegee. He has more than 28 years of coaching experience at the high school and college level. In 2018, Bivens was instrumental in growth of wide receiver Leonard Tyree, who was named First Team All-SIAC. Prior to Tuskegee, Bivens worked at Birmingham Southern College. From 2003-2006, he served as a receivers coach for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He had NFL coaching internships with the Atlanta Falcons in 2006 and the Tennessee Titans in 2007. Before moving up to the collegiate ranks, Bivens spent 22 years in the high school ranks with stops at Central High in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Newnan High in Newnan, Georgia, Anniston High in Anniston, Alabama, Bradshaw High in Florence, Alabama, and Shades Valley High in Birmingham, Alabama. Bivens served as Head Coach at Anniston High School from 1992-99, after previously serving as the Defensive Coordinator from 1988-92. He helped the Bulldogs to a 13-2 record and the AHSAA 6A State title in 1994. As a high school coach, Bivens saw 25 prospects attend Division I colleges and coached three First-Team All-Conference-USA selections, including All-American receiver Roddy White, while on the UAB staff. White had 1,452 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in 2004 and was drafted in the first round by the Atlanta Falcons. Bivens graduated from the University of North Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1980 and later earned his Master’s in Physical Education from UNA in 1985. Bivens is married (Diane) and they have seven children; Rico Johnson, Patrick Johnson, Candice, MeConya, Rodney Jr., Isaac, and Elaine.

Conley Langford
Coach
Conley Langford enters his 18th season with the Golden Bears, this season coaching the defensive tackles. Langford had been an assistant coach for nine years with the Golden Bears before taking a leave of absence. While serving as defensive line coach in addition to his coordinator duties in 2017, Langford helped produce two All-SIAC performers, including Freshman of the Year Marquel Shelton. In 2016, Miles was 14th in the nation in total defense and one of just 15 schools that allowed less than 300 yards per contest. The Golden Bears led the nation in fewest passing touchdowns allowed (9), were second in defensive touchdowns (7), and third in passing yards allowed per game (157.8). In 2015, Langford’s stingy defensive tactics were instrumental in guiding the Golden Bears to their second SIAC championship in five years. The Golden Bears were eighth in Division II in scoring defense and pass defense and 22nd in total yards allowed. Six times, Miles did not allow more than one touchdown in a game, including the 20-7 win over Albany State in the league title game, which memorably featured a goal line stand that stoned the Golden Rams on four chances from the 1-yard line. During his tenure as defensive coordinator, Langford’s defenses have been ranked nationally with numerous players being named to SIAC All-Conference teams, playing in the Arena Football Leagues and other playing overseas. Last season, defensive end Braysean Jones earned All-American honors for his play during the season. Langford spent eight years as a high school football coach in the Birmingham City School system and during his tenure, he coached two High School All-Americans. Coach Langford graduated from Alabama A&M University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. He played linebacker for the Bulldogs from 1987-1991, and helped the Bulldogs win four SIAC Championships. Langford is married (Kimyum) and they have one daughter, Yasminye Genae’.
