Kyle Almoney

Head Coach

Almoney's team finished 3-5 overall and broke eight different school records throughout the season. In the 2011-12 season Almoney led the squad to a 3-3 record in dual meets and a 11th-place finish at the PSAC Championships. At the conference championships the team earned 107 points, the most points a team has earned under Almoney. Almoney's team also broke 10 school records, including four individual and four relay records at the PSAC Championships. Almoney guided four swimmers to the PSAC Championships in individual events, including two freshman. Sarah Bernhardt re-broke her records in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, while also earning NCAA "B" cut times in all three. Bernhardt captured two All-PSAC honors in the 50 free and 100 fly, including a third-place finish in the 100 fly. Bernhardt also broke the 200 free at the PSAC Championships. Freshman Brigid Mary McDonnell made an impressive jump into collegiate swimming under Almoney's watch. McDonnell broke the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke records twice during the 2011-12 campaign, including two record breaking times in the PSAC Championships. McDonnell qualified for four individual events in the conference championships. McDonnell and Bernhardt were members of the four relay teams that broke records at the championships. In the 2010-11 season Almoney guided the Marauders to their fifth-straight winning season with an 8-2 dual meet mark. It is the first time in Millersville womens swimming history that a coach has completed the task. Under Almoney's guidance, the Marauders saw several school records broken throughout the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. During her freshman campaign standout Sarah Bernhardt broke records in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, and was also a member of the record-breaking 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relay teams. During the 2010-11 season Bernhardt continued her success as she broke several of her own records again. In his first year as head coach, Almoney led the Marauders to their only undefeated season in the team's then 29-year history by going 5-0 in dual meets. The swimming team broke seven school records while earning Academic All-America status. It was MU's first winning season in eight years. In her first year with Millersville, Almoney saw freshmen Arielle Walbert shatter the school record in the 400-yard individual medley. In addition to breaking records, Almoney sent six swimmers to the PSAC championships in 2010. Almoney was a 24-time All-American in swimming while obtaining his B.A. in communication studies at West Chester University. He was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Rookie of the Year in 2000. He holds the school record in the 200-yard butterfly. In 1997, Almoney was the PIAA state champion in the 100-yard butterfly. He was also an All-American swimmer in high school. Before coming to Millersville, Almoney was an assistant coach at Widener University from 2003-2004 and was also an assistant at the Trident swim club, where he primarily worked with the distance group and guided several of the swimmers to both senior nationals and Olympic trial times. He also coached at an independent high school in York, Pa. where he coached an All-American in the 500 freestyle in 2005. Almoney is a member of the American Swim Coaches Association and the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
