Millikin University Men's Golf

Hillen has joined the Big Blue staff in August 2014 serving as an Assistant Mens Golf Coach.           As a player, Hillen was a two-time College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Champion and a two-time NCAA Division III National Tournament qualifier. Hillen had 14 career tournament wins and was twice named to the PING All-American Third Team. Hillen is currently apart of six records at the Big Blue. Individually, he holds the Millikin record for lowest 36-hole score (136) and lowest season scoring average (73.52). His senior year he was ranked number six in the country for scoring average. In 2012, Hillen qualified for and competed in the United State Amateur Championship, the US Public Links Championship, and the Patriot All-American.             Hillen won the 2014 Decatur Mens City Amateur Championships.           Hillen graduated from Millikin in May of 2013 with a degree in Marketing.        Former Big Blue golfer Sam Osborne took over as Millikin’s Head Men’s Golf Coach in August 2011.  Osborne was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Golf Coach of the Year for 2012-13.  In May of 2016, Osborne was promoted to Director of Golf for Millikin serving as the head coach for both the Big Blue men's and women's golf programs.           Osborne, a 2010 Millikin graduate, spent the 2010-11 season as an assistant men’s golf coach on the Big Blue staff helping to guide the Millikin team to a CCIW Championships and a 14th place finish in the NCAA Division III Championships.         As a player for the Big Blue, Osborne earned four varsity letters in golf and served as team captain for two years. As a senior, Osborne had an 18-hole stroke average of 77 and won the McNaughton Memorial at Illinois College carding a 69.     Being a Decatur native, Osborne is a familiar face in the Decatur area golf scene. He has been working for the Decatur Park District since age 16 doing inside and outside golf operations, works with the Decatur Junior Golf Academy, and playing in a number of city championships. Osborne also continues to play competitively in various USGA and CDGA tournaments.           In November of 2016, Osborne earned his TPI Level 1 Certification in Phoenix, AZ. Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) is the world's leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing.           Osborne enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling the world, fishing, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and reading golf books.          

Virgile Gruny joined the Millikin Golf coaching staff in July 2025 as an assistant coach.  From Lamorlaye, France, Gruny graduated from the Institut Libre D'éducation Physique Superieur (ILEPS) in 2023 with a degree in Sports Management. He continued his education at Millikin University in 2023, earning his Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management in 2025.    Gruny has been a competitive golfer for 12 years and played for the Big Blue from 2023-2025. In France, he was a part of the 2019 High School French National Champion team. While at Millikin, Gruny was named an All-American Scholar in the 2024-2025 season. Along with being apart of numerous team records in 2 years, he has multiple individual records. In the 2024-2025 season he had the 11th all-time lowest season average at Millikin with a 74.26. He is also third in the Millikin record book for career low 36-hole score, shooting a 71-67 (-6) at the 2024 Highland Classic. Gruny has the third all-time lowest career average with a 75.28 at Millikin.    

Hannah Harpster set to join Big Blue Golf this as assistant coach this season. Harpster graduated from Illinois College in ’25, where she was a 4-year varsity player and nursing major. Harpster is 11th all-time in career scoring average (87.35), has two career tournament wins, and was a part of numerous team records during her tenure there. While at Illinois College, Harpster developed a deeper appreciation for the game and the teamwork it fosters. She is passionate about helping student-athletes grow not only in their golf skills but also in confidence, discipline, and sportsmanship. Hannah says, “I look forward to supporting the team and contributing to a positive and competitive environment.”
