Matt VanDerMeid

Head Coach

VanDerMeid is in his fifth season as head mens and womens swimming coach at Misericordia University. He was named the 2014-2015 MAC Men's Swim Coach of the Year. The MU men's and women'steams finished second at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships for the second straight year in 2014-2015. A graduate of SUNY-Geneseo, VanDerMeid spent the three seasons as an assistant at his alma mater and helped the mens and womens teams to three consecutive SUNYAC titles. He coached 10 All-Americans and the team broke 25 school records over the last three years. As a student-athlete at Geneseo, VanDerMeid was a three-time NCAA qualifier and a 10-time All-American. He was the SUNYAC Championships MVP and is a member of the SUNY-Geneseo Athletics Hall of Fame. Alexander Taylor

Head Coach

Alexander Taylor is in his seventh year as head coach of men's and women's swimming and the aquatics director at Misericordia University. Taylor is just the fourth head coach in the 26-year history of the Misericordia swim program. Entering the 2025-26 season, Taylor holds career records of 47-5 (women's) and 32-16 (men's).  In his first season, he led the women’s team to a 10-1 record and a runner-up finish at the MAC Championships while the men’s team finished sixth at MAC’s. The women’s team set four school records and the men’s team established two school marks. Grace Nikolski ended her career with All-America honors in the 100 breaststroke and was the MAC champion in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. Taylor spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at Mt. St. Mary's University where he helped establish the men's swimming program.  While at Mt. St. Mary’s, Taylor helped nine student-athletes qualify for the CSCAA National Invitational Championship, and in each of his three seasons, the team was recognized by the CSCAA for earning Scholar All-America status. Taylor was a four-year letterman at SUNY-Potsdam where he served as a two-year team captain and set seven school records.  He was a four-time SUNYAC champion and was the 2012 SUNYAC Most Outstanding Swimmer. Taylor earned his bachelor's degree in history secondary education from Potsdam and has a master's in literacy education from Alfred. He previously served as a graduate assistant coach at Alfred and has worked as camp counselor and coach at the University of Texas.

Adam Grzech

Assistant Coach

Grzech is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach for the Misericordia University swim team. Grzech is a 2013 graduate of Misericordia, earning his degree in accounting. He served as team captain for the swim team from 2011-13. Grzech holds the school record in the 100 backstroke and is also a member of three relay teams that hold school record, the 200 medley relay, the 400 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.
