John Works

Assistant Coach

Entering his second season as an assistant coach for the Mississippi Christian University men's basketball program, John Works continues to play an integral role in the development of the Choctaws under head coach Josh Brooks. Works reunited with Brooks in 2025 after the pair spent three successful seasons together at Belhaven University, bringing continuity and a shared vision to the program. During his first season in Clinton, Works helped the Choctaws navigate their inaugural year under a new coaching staff while contributing in all facets of the program. His responsibilities included recruiting, scouting, player development, video analysis, practice planning, and game preparation as Mississippi Christian University earned 10 victories, including key Gulf South Conference wins over Auburn Montgomery, Lee, Delta State, Christian Brothers, and Valdosta State. Works also played an important role in the development of freshman guard Phil Nelson, who emerged as one of the Gulf South Conference's top newcomers after averaging 15.8 points per game. A Belhaven alumnus, Works returned to his alma mater in 2022 to join Brooks' staff, where he helped the Blazers become one of the top programs in the Collegiate Conference of the South. During his three seasons on staff, Belhaven reached back-to-back CCS Championship Games while posting consecutive 20-win campaigns, including a 21-5 record in 2024-25—the program's winningest season since 2013-14. Prior to Belhaven, Works served as a graduate assistant coach at NCAA Division II Delta State University for two seasons. While with the Statesmen, he gained valuable experience in player development, scouting, recruiting, and daily basketball operations while earning a Master of Science degree in Human and Sports Performance. As a student-athlete, Works competed at Belhaven from 2015-19, appearing in 54 games with 14 starts during his collegiate career. He began his college career with a redshirt season at Freed-Hardeman University before transferring to Belhaven. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from Belhaven in 2019. A native of Corinth, Mississippi, Works has built a reputation as a tireless recruiter and mentor with strong ties throughout the state's basketball community. He and his wife, Parrish, have one child and reside in Flowood, Mississippi.

Jordan Marshall

Assistant Coach

Entering his second season as an assistant coach for the Mississippi Christian University men's basketball program, Jordan Marshall continues to make an impact on the Choctaws through player development, recruiting, and mentoring student-athletes. A rising coach with a decorated collegiate playing career, Marshall joined head coach Josh Brooks' staff in 2025 following four standout seasons at Belhaven University. During his first season on the sidelines, Marshall helped the Choctaws navigate their first year under a new coaching staff while working extensively with player development, skill instruction, scouting, and recruiting. His experience as one of the Gulf South region's most accomplished recent players proved invaluable in the development of Mississippi Christian University's young roster, including freshman standout Phil Nelson, who emerged as one of the conference's top newcomers. Marshall concluded one of the most accomplished playing careers in Belhaven history in 2025. Over three seasons with the Blazers, he helped lead the program to a Collegiate Conference of the South regular-season championship, back-to-back CCS Championship Game appearances, and consecutive 20-win seasons. A three-time First Team All-Conference selection, Marshall finished his career among Belhaven's all-time leading scorers and ranked in the program's top five for single-game scoring after a 40-point performance. He earned 15 CCS Player of the Week honors and was named C Spire Player of the Week 11 times during his collegiate career. Marshall began his collegiate career at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where he appeared in 36 games while averaging 6.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per contest before transferring to Belhaven. A native of Raymond, Mississippi, Marshall was a standout at Raymond High School under head coach Tony Tadlock. He was part of one of the state's premier programs, helping the Rangers capture four consecutive MHSAA State Championships from 2016-19. Marshall earned his bachelor's degree in Leadership and Coaching with a minor in Kinesiology from Belhaven University and is pursuing a master's degree in Coaching. His passion for teaching the game and investing in student-athletes has made for a seamless transition from standout player to collegiate coach.
