Head Coach
Derek Waddoups enters into his seventh season as the Montana State University Billings head baseball coach in 2025-26. Waddoups, named the 2025 GNAC Coach of the Year, guided the Yellowjackets through one of the most historic campaigns in program history during the 2024–25 season. Under his leadership, MSUB matched its single-season record with 33 wins and earned just the second NCAA West Region Tournament berth in school history—where they secured their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with a 15-7 win over No. 4 Point Loma. The Yellowjackets finished the season with a 33-22 record, bringing Waddoups’ career mark to 118-145. He now ranks second in program history for career wins, trailing only Rob Bishop’s 135. The 2024–25 season also saw Waddoups coach 11 All-GNAC selections and four All-West Region honorees. Among them were Sam Coxen, the GNAC Freshman of the Year; Zack Blaszak, a First Team All-GNAC selection and NCBWA/CCA Second Team All-West Region pick; Hayden Mullins, who earned First Team All-GNAC and NCBWA/CCA Second Team All-West Region; Kaden Kirshenbaum, another First Team All-GNAC and NCBWA Second Team All-West Region selection; and Jackson Betancourt, a Second Team All-GNAC player who also earned ABCA West Region All-Defensive honors and set the GNAC record for career starts. Additionally, standout Bodee Wright was named First Team All-GNAC and is now playing professionally for the Billings Mustangs. In his fifth season as head coach, Waddoups helped produce nine All-GNAC selections, including three first team selections. Payton Flynn, Jack Nehler, and Kaden Kirshenbaum also recieved NCAA D2 All-West Region recognition. The Yellowjackets ended the season 17-33 overall and 11-21 in GNAC play. In 2023, the Yellowjackets finished with a 21-27 overall and 12-18 GNAC record. The 'Jackets produced nine All-GNAC selections including Kaden Kirshenbaum as GNAC Newcomer of the Year. Payton Flynn, Trevor Cassell, and Kaden Kirshenbaum also earned NCAA D2 All-West Region recognition. In the spring of 2022, Waddoups guided the Yellowjackets to the GNAC Championships tournament with a third-place finish in the league standings at 26-27 overall and 16-16 in conference play. Cooper Dulich was the first player in program history to earn the GNAC Freshman of the Year award. In his first season at the helm in the spring of 2020, the Yellowjackets finished 11-6-1 overall in a conference season cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a 12-year stint as assistant baseball coach at Salt Lake City Community College. At SLCC, his duties included recruiting coordinator and hitting coach, along with coaching the catching and supervising the strength and conditioning and position player speed and development programs. Waddoups leaves one of the premier junior college programs in the country in SLCC. Last season, the Bruins finished 36-13 and 26-7 in the conference. The team played three games in the Region 18 tournament but ultimately fell to College of Southern Idaho. During his stead as an assistant at SLCC, the Bruins held a record of 434-233 (.651 winning percentage). He also played a key role in moving 85 players on to 4-year institutions or professional baseball. Off the diamond, Waddoups was the lead instructor for the renowned 'Know Greater Heroes' (KGH) leadership program involving SLCC student-athletes. Waddoups taught a leadership course to student-athletes prior to traveling through the community to perform elementary school assemblies. KGH is an educational and motivational program that takes Bruin athletes, coaches, and the Bruin Bear mascot to local elementary schools promoting healthy lifestyles, a drug-free life and leadership from within. "One thing that stood out to me was his core values of optimism, positive energy, and servant leadership," Montague said. "Coach Waddoups is not only committed to have a competitive and successful team on the field, but also is passionate about building a program that will create well rounded individuals. His strong commitment to helping his players earn a degree was impressive as well. Coach Waddoups career up to this point has allowed him to learn how to manage all aspects of a successful baseball program." Prior to joining the Bruin staff, Waddoups spent the 2007 season at the University of Texas-Brownsville as the pitching coach, and spent the 2005-06 seasons at Bellevue University as the hitting and catching coach where they were participants in the 2006 NAIA World Series. Derek spent the summer of 2006 with the Wisconsin Woodchucks in the Northwoods League as the pitching coach. As a player, Waddoups led Bellevue University to the NAIA World Series twice, finishing third in 2003 and sixth in 2004. He was a two-year team captain and All-Region catcher in 2003 and 2004 and was an Academic All-American in 2004 and received the National "Champion of Character' award. Before his time at Bellevue, Derek played at the College of Eastern Utah where he was an all-region player and team captain. A graduate of Roy High School in Utah, Waddoups lettered in football, basketball and baseball and was named Athlete-of-the-Year as a senior. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Torreon, Mexico. Waddoups received his master’s degree in Leadership from Bellevue University in 2006. Derek is married to Carly Waddoups and the couple has four children, two son's and two daughters. Paisley, Paxon, Porter, and Pepper.

Brian Greisman

Brian Greisman heads into his second season as Assistant Coach for the Montana State University Billings baseball team. In his first year as the Yellowjackets' pitching coach, Greisman played a pivotal role in guiding MSUB to one of the most historic seasons in program history during the 2024–25 campaign. The team tied its single-season record with 33 wins and earned just the second NCAA West Region Tournament berth in school history—where they notched their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with a 15–7 win over No. 4 Point Loma. Under Greisman's leadership, the pitching staff recorded a 5.21 ERA, marking the third-best season ERA in school history and ranking 58th nationally. The 2025 season also saw Greisman coach 11 players to All-GNAC honors and four to All-West Region recognition, including four pitchers who received All-GNAC and two pitchers who earned All-West Region accolades. Standouts included Sam Coxen, a Second Team All-GNAC honoree and was named GNAC Freshman of the Year; Hayden Mullins, a First Team All-GNAC and NCBWA/CCA Second Team All-West Region honoree; Jackson Betancourt, who earned Second Team All-GNAC, ABCA West Region All-Defensive Team honors, and set the GNAC record for career starts; and Brennen Chappell, a GNAC Championships All-Tournament Team and an All-GNAC Honorable Mention selection. In addition to his collegiate success, Greisman joined the Billings Mustangs coaching staff for the summer of 2025, where he is contributing to player development at the professional level. He is working alongside senior standout Bodee Wright, a First Team All-GNAC selection now pitching and playing infield for the Mustangs. Greisman spent the 2023-24 season as the Pitching Coach at Southwestern Assemblies of God University now known as Nelson University in Waxahachie, TX. During that season, his pitching staff led the conference in strikeouts and three of his pitchers signed professional contracts following the season. Greisman spent the 2023 summer as the Pitching Coach for the Wareham Gatemen in the prestigious Cape Cod League. Since then, 11 of his pitchers were selected during the 2023 & 2024 MLB Draft. Greisman comes with a range of coaching experience. In the summer of 2022, before joining Golloway’s staff, he spent time as the Head Coach of the Newark Pilots of the New York Perfect Game Collegiate League. In his time there, his team led the league in batting average. Before his time at ECU, he was the Pitching Coach at Cleveland Community College in Shelby, NC. All of his pitchers there have signed onto NCAA programs advancing their careers. He also served as the Head Coach of the S. Carolina Bulls of the Southern Shores Collegiate Baseball League in the summer of 2021. Prior to his time at Cleveland Community College, Greisman was the Head Coach at Turner High School for a year. From his one season there he helped sign 3 players to play at the collegiate level. He was also the owner and Head Coach of the Ardmore Athletes, a summer showcase 19U team. From that summer 5 players signed to play baseball at the collegiate level. He began his passion for coaching when he created his own Pitching & Hitting academy in Ardmore, OK, from 2017-2020, where he trained over hundreds of players from the youth level to the professional level. His High School baseball playing days were spent at Plainview High School. His team made it to State each of his last 2 years, just falling short of the State Championship his Senior year. Greisman was Conference Pitcher of the year and All-Area. Greisman played collegiate baseball at Murray State College for 2 years. Where he is now in the Athletic Hall of Fame there with his 2013 National Championship Winning team. He then went on to play at Wichita State University for 2 years. He also participated in summer league baseball. He spent a summer in the prestigious West Coast League with the Walla Walla Sweets, earning all-star honors there. Also, earning all-star honors in the Kansas Collegiate Baseball League. He continued his playing career playing Professional Baseball for the Plattsburgh Thunderbirds of the Empire Professional Baseball League. In the 2019 season, him and his team claimed the League Championship. The Ardmore, Oklahoma native earned an associate’s degree from Murray State College in May 2014, a bachelor’s degree in communication from Wichita State in December 2017, and a Master’s degree in Sports Management in April 2022 from the University of Southern Indiana. He got married to his wife, Elizabeth, in 2020.

Matt Geoffrion
Assistant Coach
Matt Geoffrion is entering his third season as a graduate assistant coach with the Montana State University Billings baseball team. In the 2024-25 season, Geoffrion played a crucial role in supporting the pitching staff and player development, helping lead MSUB to one of the most remarkable seasons in program history. The team matched its single-season record with 33 wins and secured only the second NCAA West Region Tournament appearance in school history, where they achieved their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. Under his support, the Yellowjackets saw 11 players earn All-GNAC honors and four who received All-West Region recognition. Among the standouts were four pitchers honored with All-GNAC awards and two pitchers named to the All-West Region team. Matt pitched professionally in the Pioneer League with the Idaho Falls Chuckars and the Glacier Range Riders. He also pitched for the Salem Senators in the Mavericks League where he was named to the all-star team. He also pitched and traveled overseas to Australia with the Redlands Rays baseball club. Geoffrion has worked as an assistant coach and with pitching development for the Worcester Bravehearts in Massachusetts, Redland Rays in Brisbane, Australia, and with Farm Sports in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Matt has shown a passion for player development. He played collegiately at the University of Maine where he was named to 2017 America East All-Freshman team. He finished his collegiate career at University of Colorado Colorado Springs winning the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship.
