Jason Lewkowicz

Head Coach

Lewkowicz, who will continue to guide the cross country programs while providing oversight of the entire cross country/track & field program. The two have a long history, as Olinger competed in cross country under Lewkowicz at UVA-Wise, where he graduated with a degree in history. After serving as an assistant at UVA-Wise for a season, Olinger coached in the high school ranks where he had successful stints at Patrick Henry High School and Abingdon High School in Virginia before making the full jump to college coaching at EMU. Coach Olinger said, "It is an honor and a blessing to be joining  again, but more importantly to do so at Montreat College. A college who is Christ-centered in its pursuit of higher education. Thank you to Jose Larios and  for believing in me and affording me this opportunity. There is a lot to be excited about the track & field program. We want to honor God through our program while also creating a winning culture. What better place for that to happen then at Montreat College" "I am thrilled that Britten is joining us at Montreat," said Lewkowicz. "I believe that Britten is a bright and talented young coach and is the perfect fit for what we are building here at Montreat. As good of a track coach as he is, he is an even better person and has a true heart to pour into the lives of student-athletes. He understands the Christ-centered mission of Montreat and shares my passion to use college athletics to develop young people, point them to the love of Christ, and to honor God through our competitive efforts. Larios added, "We are excited to add Coach Olinger to our staff. His heart for our mission and his relational coaching style is precisely what we're seeking to grow our track & field program. His expertise in developing our sprints, hurdles, and jumps crew is strategic as we seek to grow into an all-around program." Olinger will begin his duties at Montreat in July and will be joined by his wife Samantha and daughter. Coach Jason Lewkowicz is in his second season and joined the Montreat College staff as the Director of Cross Country/Track & Field in June 2015 after spending the past four years at Eastern Mennonite University. During the 2015-2016 season, Lewkowicz guided the men's cross country team to a third place finish at the 2015 AAC Cross Coutry Championships while qualifying two student-athletes to the 2016 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. The men's team took home fifth place at the AAC outdoor meet, claiming two individual titles and 13 All-Conference honors. Prior to coming to Montreat, Lewkowicz led the program at Eastern Mennonite University where he grew a team of less than ten team members to a full roster of 55 student-athletes. He coached ten NCAA national qualifiers at EMU, including 2015 NCAA Track & Field All-Americans in the indoor mile and outdoor 1500m. In addition, EMU runners earned 2014-2015 NCAA South/Southeast Runner of the Year accolades in both Women's Indoor and Outdoor track & field. Coach Lewkowicz took a cross country program that did not field a full team the year prior to his arrival and grew them into top-10 NCAA region teams. EMU's 2014 XC teams both earned runner-up finishes at the 2014 ODAC Championships and, after earning a pair of top-8 NCAA region finishes, sent a school record three competitors to the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships, including the men's South/Southeast Region champion and Runner of the Year. On the track the EMU program has also earned numerous top-10 region finishes for both teams and has broken numerous school records in the process. The EMU track team wrapped up the 2015 outdoor regular season by winning nine individual titles and earning the programs their top conference finish in eight years. For those efforts, Lewkowicz was honored as the 2015 ODAC Women's Coach of the Year. Prior to taking over the EMU program, Lewkowicz served in the same capacity at Hannibal-LaGrange Unviersity for three years. Lewkowicz' HLGU team qualified five student-athletes to the 2011 NAIA Indoor Championships which was the most in school history and that group included a national runner-up and HLGs first ever All-American in the 60m Hurdles. During the outdoor season, his team qualified six athletes for the national championships and produced two All-Americans (110m Hurdles and Pole Vault), again, the first track All-American accolades in school history.  During the 2011 Outdoor track & field season, his Lady Trojans claimed the school's first American Midwest Conference Championship.  For that accomplishment, Coach Lewkowicz was named the 2011 AMC Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year. Prior to HLGU, Lewkowicz began his collegiate coaching career at UVA-Wise, where he led the Cavaliers to one of its best performances in the NAIA Region XII cross country meet in 2007 while qualifying an athlete to the 2007 NAIA Cross Country National Championships.   Overall, student-athletes under the guidance of Lewkowicz have earned the following accoldes: 5 All-Americans, 35 National Championship qualifiers, 59 conference champions, and 175 All-Conference honors. Student-athletes coached by Lewkowicz have also excelled in the classroom, earning 28 Academic All-American honors and over 215 Academic All-Conference honors. Athletic Director Jose Larios has this to say about Lewkowicz' arrival at Montreat: "We are thrilled to have the Lewkowicz family join us at Montreat College. Jason's heart for sports ministry and discipleship is encouraging to all who have worked with him. Coupled with his background in developing a competitive, Christ-centered team culture at the national level, his leadership will be a great addition to an already solid foundation."  Lewkowicz lives in Black Mounain with his wife Wendy and their four boys.
