University of Mount Olive Men's Golf

Chip Spiron returned to his alma mater in fall 2002 to become Mount Olive’s head men’s golf coach. He added the title of head women’s golf coach in spring 2004. Spiron is one of only three head coaches in University of Mount Olive history to earn conference coach of the year honors in two different sports. Spiron was named the 2007 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Men’s Golf Coach of the Year and was named Conference Carolinas Women’s Golf Coach of the Year three consecutive years in 2011, 2012 and 2013. During the 2020-21 season, the men's team captured their first Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship and team at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Spiron earned a degree in sports management at Mount Olive after transferring from Division I UNC-Wilmington prior to his junior year. Spiron held the Trojan record for lowest career average until it was broken after the conclusion of the 2010-11 season. In addition to his college coaching experience, Spiron has served as assistant golf pro at Walnut Creek Country Club and Southern Wayne Country Club. Rose returned to one of his two alma maters in October 2009 when he was named assistant coach for the University of Mount Olive mens and womens golf teams. Rose earned his associates degree at Mount Olive when the school was still a two-year college, then transferred to Clemson where he earned his undergraduate degree. Rose won All-America honors at both Mount Olive and Clemson. Rose helped lead Mount Olive to the Junior College National Finals in 1977. In 2006, Rose was part of the inaugural class inducted into the Mount Olive College Athletics Hall of Fame. Rose is also in the Clemson University Athletics Hall of Fame and was selected to the Atlantic Coast Conference Mens Golf 50th Anniversary Team. Rose competed on the PGA Tour for 16 years and amassed more than $2.5 million in winnings. He won championships at the 1996 Sprint International and the 1997 J.C. Penney Classic. He has also competed on the Nationwide Tour and the Champions Tour. In addition to coaching at Mount Olive, Rose is the head golf pro at Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro, N.C. Rose and his wife Jan have two children, Clark and Allison. Clark graduated from Mount Olive in 2011 and was a member of the Trojan mens golf team.
