Ron Kamaka
Head Coach
Kamaka guided the men's team to a second place finish at the CCCAA State Championships, without a single individual event state champion. The team also finished second at the Southern California Championships and second in the South Coast Conference. Under his direction the men's 4X100 Meter Relay Team captured a state championship, while Freshman Hurdler Toure McCully, Sophomore Long Jumper Marquise Cherry and Sprinter/Jumper Dominic Jones were all named South Coast Conference Athletes of the Year. Cherry also qualified for the USA Track and Field (USATF) National Championships, while freshman Kyree King, qualified for the USATF Junior National Championships in the 200 meters. Prior to arriving at Mt. SAC, Kamaka served at Cal State Fullerton for 12 years as an Assistant Coach (8 years) and Associate Head Coach (4 years). During his tenure at Cal State Fullerton, Kamaka guided 5 NCAA Division 1 All-Americans and numerous conference and all-conference award winners. His technical knowledge has been chronicled by NCAA qualifiers such as Brandon Campbell, Matt Turner, Kurt Webber, Joe Thomas and Jonathan Golden in the jumps and former Mt. SAC Pole Vaulter and 2004 Olympian Giovanni Lanaro. At Mt. SAC, Coach Kamakas focus has primarily been on the High Jump, Hurdles and Multi Events. This season he will work primarily with the Long and Triple Jumpers. Kamaka has guided numerous individual athletes to conference, regional and state accolades including State Champions Marcus Pope (400 Hurdles), Tomek Cerwinski (Decathlon), Nate Koch (Decathlon) and State Runner Justin Bethea (High Jump). A former California Community College High Jump Champion while at Santa Rosa Community College, he later competed at Arizona State University where he jumped 7031/2 and was PAC 10 Conference Runner-Up. Two highlights of his athletic career include being inducted into the Santa Rosa Community College Athletic Hall of Fame (2000) and the Rancho Cotate High School Hall of Fame (2010) for his athletic accomplishments in Basketball and in Track and Field.

Giovanni Lanaro
Head Coach
Lanaro, captured the 2000 California State Community College State Championship and placed 4th at the USATF Junior National Championships. During his sophomore season, he captured the 2001 USA National Community College Championship and broke the long time school record of 17'01" held by legendary Bob Seagren (Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist) and Bill Halverson. That season he jumped higher than the former record an incredible 8 times, finishing his Mt. SAC career with a best jump of 17'08"1/2. After his career at Mt. SAC, Lanaro attended California State University at Fullerton, under the guidance of current Mt. SAC Head Coach, Ron Kamaka. While at Fullerton, he garnered the Cal State Fullerton Record (18'04"1/2) and three NCAA Divison 1 All-American Titles. After college, Lanaro returned back home to Mt. SAC to train and coach alongside long time Mt. SAC Assistant Coach and USATF Men's and Women's Pole Vault National Chair, Brian Yokoyama. Lanaro who has dual citizenship with the US and Mexico, represented Mexico at 4 World Outdoor Championships, 2 World Indoor Championships, the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens (Greece) and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (China). At the 2006 World Indoor Championships in Moscow (Russia), Lanaro put his mark in the world scene by placing 4th. The following year, at the 2007 Mt. SAC Relays, he vaulted over 19'01" (5.82M) to set a new Mexican, Central American, Hilmer Lodge Stadium and Mt. SAC Relays Record. The mark established him as one top pole vaulters in the world and earned him top 10 world rankings for 6 seasons. Updated 02-27-14

Bird competed at Sherman High School, before transferring to Clackamas Community College, where she competed in both relays and hurdles. After Clackamas, she headed south to attend and compete at Cal State Fullerton where she was coached by then Associate Head Coach and current Mt. SAC Head Coach, Ron Kamaka, in the intermediate hurdles. A self proclaimed track nut, Bird enjoys spending time with her family in Oregon. She currently teaches Kinesiology Classes at Mt. SAC in the Wellness Center. Bird is single and resides in Orange, California.

Edmund Pula
Assistant Coach
Pula guided the throws program at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) from 2004-2012. While at CSUF, he helped to reset Fullertons record books in 9 of the 12 throwing events. His throwers accomplished many firsts for the Titans including; All-Big West Conference Honors, All-NCAA West Regional Honors and the first female thrower to qualify for the NCAA National Championships and attain the NCAA 2 Team All-American Standard. Pulas throwers have also enjoyed victories the prestigious Florida Relays, Mt. SAC Relays and Cal/Nevada State Championships. He has also worked with a number of youth and junior athletes for Victory Athletics, helping them qualify for the USATF Junior Nationals and Junior Olympics. Pula currently directs the Mt. SAC Relays/LA84 Foundation Youth Days Clinic Program. He is also a speaker/clinician at the prestigious LA84 Foundation Track and Field Coaching Clinics, as well as the World Record Camps alongside track and field legends Willie Banks, Mike Powell and Dick Fosbury. Pula earned his Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton and his Masters Degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University.

Brian Yokoyama
Assistant Coach
Yokoyama guided men's javelin college record holder, Adam Bianchessi, to a remarkable two year run. During that time, Bianchessi placed 4th in the 2010 State Championships, placed ninth in the 2010 USA Track and Field Junior National Championships and capped it off with an incredible 2011 campaign where he went undefeated in community college competition winning the conference, Southern California, California State and National Championships, along with the college and South Coast Conference Record. What is most amazing is the fact that Bianchessi had never competed in any organized sports prior to arriving at Mt. SAC. From 1995 to 2007, Yokoyama also served as an Assistant Cross Country Coach, helping lead the Mountie Women to 3 State Championships and 8 top five finishes. In 1996 and 1997, he served as the Womens Track and Field Head Coach and led the team to a second place finish during the 1997 season. Yokoyama has guided three Mounties over the 17 foot barrier and 21 over the 16 foot barrier. In 2001, he was named the National Collegiate Pole Vault Coach of the Year by the USA Track and Field Pole Vault Development. In 2007, he was named State Assistant Track and Field Coach of the Year by the California Community College Cross Country/Track Coaches Association and in 2008 he was named South Coast Conference Assistant Track and Field Coach of the Year by his peers. Yokoyama is very active with the USA Track and Field Pole Vault Development. He currently leads both the Men's and Womens Pole Vault High Performance/Development as the National Chairperson. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the North American Pole Vault Association and is actively involved in running the USATF Pole Vault Summit (3,000 attendees in Reno, NV) and the NAPVA National Championships (8,000 Spectators) in Clovis, California as Co-Director. Through the years, Yokoyama has worked/consulted with many top national and international pole vaulters including: Yokoyama is currently coaching/consulting with a number of top American, Japanese and Taiwanese Pole Vaulters. Yokoyama is an active speaker and has presented at numerous top clinics throughout the US and the world including the USA Track and Field Coaches Association National Clinic, USATF Podium Education Project, LA84 Foundation Track and Field Clinics, Japanese National Pole Vault Camp, Taiwan National Pole Vault Conference, Arizona State High School Coaches Clinic, All Sports Clinic, MSI Track and Field Clinic, Singapore Athletic Federation Pole Vault Clinic and Helena Montana Pole Vault Clinic. Prior to arriving at Mt. SAC, Yokoyama served as an Assistant Coach at Lynwood High School (Lynwood, CA). Through the years his high school pole vaulters have made 11 California State High School Championship Finals (top 9) appearances. He has also worked with a number of top High School Decathletes including two of the greatest Decathletes of all-time, Donovan Kilmartin and Marcell Allmond, who at that time held the #1 and #2 high school decathlon scores of all-time. In the community college ranks, he has served as the South Coast Conference Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Representative and was an Executive Board Member of both the Southern California and State Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association for nearly 6 years. At Mt. SAC, he currently serves as the Division Information Director, Professor, Assistant Track and Field/Cross Country Coach, Mt. SAC Relays Special Projects Director and Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational Community College Director. He has also served in other capacities including Marketing Director of the Performing Arts Center. Yokoyama received his Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology from Cal Poly Pomona. In his spare time, Yokoyama enjoys spending time with his family, cooking and traveling. John Bolton
Assistant Coach
Bolton enters his second season with the Mounties as an assistant coach, working primarily with the sprinters and relay teams. In 2016, Bolton literally dominated the men's sprints at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships. His student-athletes scored an incredible 68 points, capturing championships in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4X100 meter relay and 4X400 meter relay. He also produced CCCAA State Athlete of Year (all-sports), Cravon Gillespie, who captured the 100 meters, 200 meters and was a member of the winning 4X100 meter relay team. Gillespie ran the 11th fastest time in the nation (overall) this season in the 200 meters, at 20.20 and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials. Bolton has over 10 years of experience teaching and enhancing an athletes running speed. He spent the past 2 seasons at Fullerton College, where he turned the Hornets in a sprinting power with 2 Orange Empire Conference Champions and sprinters qualifying to the CCCAA State Championships in back to back years. He also help guide the careers of CCCAA State Champion Jumpers, L.V. Johnson and Cheyenne Thompson. Prior to Fullerton College, Bolton coached at Los Angeles Southwest College, Dominguez High School and with his company B.S.D. (Bolton Speed Development). Bolton graduated from Compton High School, before attending Long Beach City College and Cal State Fullerton. An outstanding sprinter, he was a California Community College State and Big West Conference Finalist. He holds a personal best in the 100 meters of 10.54 and 39.63 in the 4X100M Relay. Bolton holds an Associate Degree in Kinesiology and is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. A native of Compton, Bolton currently resides in Pomona, with his wife Stephanie and son Jamari.
