Keith Blackwill
Head Coach
Blackwill became Head Track and Field Coach in 2005, the Lady Thunderbirds have finished in the top 10 at Indoor/Outdoor Nationals Nineteen times. In 2010 the T-birds stepped to a new level becoming the Indoor National Co-champions and in 2014 being the Indoor National Runnersup. 2015 Indoor and Outdoor Third Place finishes. 2016 Indoor and Outdoor 2nd place finishes. Blackwill came to NMJC after 2 years as Assistant Coach at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. While at Barton, he helped guide his team to seven national championships in Indoor/Outdoor Track and Field. Prior to Barton County, Blackwill was the Head Coach at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas. His time there was highlighted by a 5th place finish at the 2002 National Indoor Meet. Other stops on the way to NMJC included being Head Coach at Allen County Community College in Iola, Kansas; Assistant Coach at Odessa College; and Assistant Mens Coach and Head Womens Coach at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas. Blackwill has completed 20 years of collegiate coaching, which includes coaching 269 NJCAA All-Americans, 67 National Champions, and nine Indoor/Outdoor National championship teams, and assisting with a National Championship team in Cross Country. In 2010 the Lady T-birds were crowned Indoor National Track and Field Co-National Champions. Coach Blackwill received 2010 Indoor National Coach of the Year,2011 National Outdoor Coach of the Year and 2016 West Region Women's Coach of the Year both Indoor and Outdoor voted by the USTFCCCA. In 2015 the T-Birds placed 3rd at both the Indoor and Outdoor National Track Meets. In 2016 the T-Birds moved up one place in both the Indoor and Outdoor National Track Meets placing 2nd at both. New Mexico Junior College has proven to be one of the top Junior College track and field programs in the nation. Evident by finishing as Co-National Champions in the 2010 indoor season and National Runners-up in 2016 for both Indoor and Outdoor seasons. The success that we have had is due to the support the faculty and staff gives to every student here at New Mexico Junior College. NMJC is a great place for a student to pursue their athletic and academic careers." Coach Blackwill received a Master's Degree from East Central University in Ada OK. and a Bachelors Degree from Fort State University in Hays, Kansas, where he also competed in Track & Field.

Jeff Becker
Head Coach
Becker works with the Middle Distance and Long Distance athletes here at NMJC. He is also the cross country coach. Becker received his education from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. He received a Bachelors degree in Physical Education (1999) and a Masters degree in exercise science (2001). Becker is also a USATF Level 1 certified coach. Becker started his coaching career as a student assistant coach at FHSU while working on his Masters degree. After graduating he took an assistant coaching job at Highland Community College (KS) for one year. After his year at HCC he took the head coaching job at Colby Community College (KS), a position he held for five years. Becker then worked his first three years at NMJC and then three years as the head coach at Butler Community College (KS). In the Fall of 2013 the great support and great people of NMJC brought Becker back to his current position. During his coaching years, Becker has coached 165 NJCAA All-Americans including 18 National Champions. Becker also coached the current NJCAA meet record holder in the Womens 10000m run (Betty Rotich, Colby CC, 2007), and three NJCAA Indoor Female Runners of the Year (Betty Rotich Colby CC, 2007 and Caroline Jepleting NMJC, 2009, 2010). Becker was also named the 2009 NJCAA Womens Indoor Track and Field Assistant Coach of the Year (NMJC) and the 2013 NJCAA Womens Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year (Butler CC). Along with the individual success, Beckers teams also achieved success. In 2010 NMJC was the Womens Indoor Track and Field National Champions and in 2013 Butler CC womens team, under the direction of Becker finished 3rd, back at NMJC the 2014 NMJC Women's Indoor team finished 2nd while the 2015 teams finished 3rd in both indoor and outdoor. In 2016 the teams finished 2nd in both indoor and outdoor. Jeff and his wife Sherry Ann, are the proud parents of Serenity, born in December 8th 2014. The couple reside in Hobbs.
