Bob Malvagna
Assistant Coach
Malvagna's most sucessful season to-date. Senior captain Joe Daru was recognized by the ABCA with inclusion on the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region Second Team. He led the squad this season in several offensive categories and finished fourh all-time in the stolen base leaderboard. In 2015, Malvagna and his squad broke double-digit wins for the second time in his tenure and the most in his time at the helm, posting a 14-30 overall record for 2015. For his efforts, sophomore Louis Mele received inclusion on the Since joining the Bears, Malvagna has overseen the nearly $2 million renovation of the baseball field, which included a FieldTurf resurfacing of the infield and outfield, new dugouts, bullpens, batting cages, press box, and scoreboards. The facelift has made the newly dedicated Angelo Lorenzo Memorial Field one of the premier baseball facilities in the Northeast. Malvagnas 20 years of experience coaching Long Island collegiate and club teams includes serving as associate head coach at Adelphi University under the direction of Hall of Fame Coach Ron Davis (2001-2003) and Dom Scala (2004-2010). As the hitting and third-base coach, he helped the Panthers to two NCAA Division II Regional bids and five winning seasons. Under his tutelage, 13 student-athletes earned All-East Region honors from Daktronics, American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Rawlings, and the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). In 2011, Malvagna left Adelphi to assist Nassau Community College to the NCAA Division III Region XV Tournament. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach under Roger Mischel at Queensborough Community College, where he helped guide the team to the 2012 CUNY Championship. A member of the St. Johns University baseball team from 1975 to 1979, Malvagna played in the 1978 College World Series. Former teammates include Major Leaguers John Franco and Frank Viola. Malvagna graduated from St. Johns in 1979 with a bachelor of science in communication arts. He currently resides in East Meadow, N.Y., with his wife, Mary, and three sons, Stephen, Ryan, and RJ.
