Jason Pasion

Head Coach

Pasion was named head coach of the NYIT Men's and Women's Tennis teams in September 2014. He becomes the third head coach in both program's histories. He joins the women's program that has a history of being tops in the East Coast Conference and nationally ranked.  His first season was highlighted not only by a regular-season crown (8-0 record), but the NYIT women's tennis program brought home the 2014 ECC Champions title as well. They concluded with a third consecutive berth into the NCAA Round of 16, held in Surprise, Ariz. The Bears finished the 2014-15 campaign at 20-5 overall and finished ranked first in the East Region and 14th in the final Oracle/ITA poll. Paison coached two CoSIDA Academic All-District players and senior Sara Burinato was named the conference Player of the Year. A fourtime ECC AllConference First Team selection and Preseason Player of the Year, she earned her second major honor of her career after winning the Rookie of the Year award as a freshman. Alessia Rossetii and Gabriela Siembab also earned inclusion on the All-Conference First Team as Melanie Benyadi and Alexandrea Borgenhoff landed on the Second Team.  The team found success prior to Pasion's appointment, winning the conference and advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2013-14. A former standout at the State University of New York at Oswego where he was a four-year starter at both singles and doubles, and team captain his junior and senior years, Pasion has worked with and coached numerous nationally and sectionally ranked juniors, collegiate players, and touring professionals.  He has coached players at numerous professional tournaments including the U.S. Open.  Pasion still plays competitively in the 35 and over USTA age division and finished 2013 ranked No. 7 in the Eastern Section for singles and No. 2 in the Long Island Region for singles.   In May 2010, Pasion was appointed by the USTA Eastern Section to recruit and coach the section's top players to compete for the prestigious George Myers Church Cup. He has held that position since then and, in 2013, led the Eastern team to win the championship; an achievement the Eastern Section has accomplished only twice before in the last 25 years of play.   Also in 2010 at the annual USTA Long Island Awards Dinner, Pasion was the recipient of the USTA Long Island Community Service Award, an award given to an individual whose dedication to serving the tennis community is outstanding and unique. Along with his tennis accomplishments, Pasion has served as the assistant director of tennis at The Mill River Club in Oyster Bay, N.Y., and is a staff professional at Eastern Athletic Clubs in Blue Point, N.Y.  Pasion graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego is 2000 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. In 2007, he graduated from Touro College School of Health Sciences with a bachelor's degree in physician assistant studies and has worked in the speciality of primary care/family medicine.
