Anthony Crocitto
Assistant Coach
Crocitto was named the sixth head women's basketball coach at NYIT in 2009 and enters his seventh season at the helm of the Bears. In six seasons, he has compiled an 89-80 overall record and stands at 59-50 in the East Coast Conference. Last season, Crocitto and the Bears posted a 20-11 overall record for his second 20 + win season since becoming head coach. Their 13-7 ECC record landed them fourth in the conference and a berth into the ECC Tournament for the third consecutive year. After defeating LIU Post by a tight 76-71 decision, NYIT advanced to the championship game by way of a 73-69 defeat of District of Columbia. In heartbreaking fashion, Queens College pulled out a 65-63 victory, despite a 15-point performance by Nina Vukosavljevic. Dina Ragab and Shanice Allen were named to the first and second All-Conference and All-Met teams, respectively. The 2013-2014 campaign featured a seven-game win streak and a 13-7 finish in the ECC, with an 18-10 overall record. Falling in the semifinals to LIU Post, 85-66, two players earned All-ECC accolades in Ragab and Alex Venuto. Senior Rebecca Romeo was named to the ECC All-Tournament team for her playoff performance and Demitra Apergis was one of 446 female student-athletes nominated for the 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Ragabs awards continued as she was included on the All-Met Second Team. With an NYIT-career high wins, Crocitto led the Bears to a 23-6 overall record in 2012-13, making an appearance in the ECC Championship game and earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament. NYIT faced Dowling College in both games, to eventually end their season. Four players earned inclusion on All-ECC squads and Nikki Jo Rotolo and Rebecca Lynch were named All-Met. For the first time in his tenure, Crocitto directed the Blue and Gold to a double-digit win season, going 16-13 and 9-7 in the conference and appeared in the ECC quarterfinals. Despite losing in the first round, two players earned All-ECC Second Team accolades; Baker and Rotolo. In 2010-11, NYIT rebounded with an 8-18 overall record and a 6-15 ECC mark. Junior transfer Cierra Baker, who played for Crocitto at Longwood University, averaged a season double-double with 17.5 points per game and12.4 rebounds per game and earned All-ECC First Team and All-Met honors. Freshman Demitra Apergis finished eighth in the ECC in assists after leading NYIT with 70 and earned All-Rookie team honors. It was a true transition year for the Bears in Crocittos inaugural campaign, as they compiled a meager 4-23 overall record and a 4-15 mark in the East Coast Conference. Madison Robertson led the team with 13.8 points and 6.5 rebounds, per game, while Latoya Anderson added 11.2 points per game. Crocitto brings a total of 20 years of collegiate coaching experience to his position. He spent two seasons as the top assistant for the women's basketball program at Longwood University and served as the assistant head coach at the University of Central Florida in Orlando (2006-2007) after a two-year stint (2004-2006) as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. His recruiting efforts at UCF included three national rankings in the nations top 50, while also assisting with academic monitoring that led to a team GPA above 3.0 each semester. He helped accomplish the same team academic successes at Hofstra, which finished 19-12 during 2005-2006 enroute to earning the schools first post-season win in the WNIT. The Amityville, N.Y. native has also held head coaching positions at Mount Ida and Dowling. During his tenure at Dowling, he helped the school to at least 15 wins during three of four seasons after the program had won just 10 games combined during the previous four years. Crocitto was also head basketball coach at Holy Child High School in Westbury, N.Y.(1994-1996), and director and head coach for both St. Martin of Tours Basketball program in Amityville, N.Y. (1989-96) and Amityville Warriors AAU Basketball (1993-1996). He was head baseball coach at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington, N.Y. (1994-1996), La Salle Center in Oakdale, N.Y. (1997-1998), and at Bayport/Blue Point High School in Blue Point, N.Y. (1998-2000). Crocitto has worked at numerous summer camps as both a coach and administrator/director. A native of Amityville, N.Y., he earned a Bachelor of Arts in management with a minor in psychology from Hofstra University in 1995.
