Jeremiah Jones
Assistant Coach
Jones in his eighth season of his second coaching stint at Newberry after a successful playing career at linebacker for the Indians in the 1990s and experiencing success in both coaching and the private sector. Jones has been the inside linebackers coach in his time here and Apollo Stretch has twice earned all-SAC honors. In 2009, Josh Williams set the conferences mark for most tackles in a single game during the 2009 campaign with 17 stops in the game at Carson-Newman. Jones made a total of 281 tackles from 1993-96, which places him eighth all-time in the Newberry College records and his 126 assisted tackles rank ninth in NC history. After graduating from Newberry in 1998, Jones was a graduate assistant at Presbyterian College for the 1999, 2000 and 2001 seasons. In 1999, he assisted with the linebackers and special teams and then worked with the defensive line and special teams in 2000 and 2001. For the 2002 season, Jones was the linebackers and strength and conditioning coach at Charleston Southern University. He returned to Presbyterian for the 2003 and 2004 season, when he served as linebackers coach, recruiting coordinator and video coordinator. He had been in the private sector since 2005.

Deke Herrin
Assistant Coach
Herrin is entering his fifth season as Newberrys wide receivers coach in 2016. Herrin cameto Newberry after four seasons as the passing game coordinator at Division III Birmingham-Southern College. In Herrins final season with the Panthers, B-SC finished first in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in total offense, with quarterback Jimmy Stainback completing 60% of his passes. Prior to Birmingham-Southern, Herrin coached outside linebackers at Presbyterian College after a season as a graduate assistant at Middle Tennessee State. Herrin began his playing career as a walk-on wide receiver at Western Carolina in 1994 and working his way up to a scholarship player in 1995 and 1996. He completed his career at Clemson, and graduated from there with a degree in sports management in 1999. He and his wife, Misty, reside in Newberry.
