Newbury College Men's Volleyball

Thomas returns to his alma mater with vast knowledge and experience in the sport of volleyball.  Prior to coming back to Newbury, the Western Massachusetts native spent the past season as an assistant coach for the United States Coast Guard Academy where he helped guide the women's volleyball team to a 22-9 record. As the First Assistant Coach, Thomas worked closely with the Bears' front row while off-the-court was the program's lead scout in scouting report meetings and was actively involved in the recruitment of potential student-athletes. In addition, he was responsible for the supervision of volunteer coaches and team managers which included training the staff in stat-tracking software. Thomas spent the 2012-13 season as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at the Division I level for the University of California - Riverside's women's volleyball team. While working primarily with the team's opposite hitters and assisting with their setters on the court, he was responsible for tracking the team's stats in-game as well as video in game film meetings. In addition, his coaching responsibilities at California-Riverside, Thomas also was the Head Coach for Prime Volleyball Club's 15-1s. After earning his Bachelor's Degree in sports management in the spring of 2010, Thomas went on to pursue is Master's Degree in Athletic Counseling at Springfield College,  where he served as a graduate assistant for the women's volleyball program.  As an assistant coach, he primarily worked with the Pride's middle hitters on blocking technique while was actively involved scouting opponents and recruiting. In the spring, Thomas spent time with the men's volleyball team, supervising matches and scheduling student workers for each event. Thomas also had a decorated career as a tremendous front row hitter at both the collegiate and professional level. As a four-year student-athlete at Newbury where he holds the program record for career (1,778) and single-season (527) kills. The two-time All-NECC First Team selection and NECVA New England First Team, he was tabbed as the 2010 NECC Player of the Year as a senior in addition to the 2009-2010 Newbury  Male Nighthawk of the Year. After an outstanding collegiate career, he played professionally overseas for the Zenith Volleyball Club Trinidad & Tobago team. A native of Wilbraham, Mass., Thomas graduated from Newbury with a degree in sports management before receiving his Master's Degree in Athletic Counseling from Springfield College. 

Chin enters his first year as an assistant mens volleyball coach under Head Coach Mark Thomas. Returning to his alma mater, he brings a plethora of volleyball knowledge and experience to the Nighthawks. As an outside hitter during his playing career, Chin notched 336 kills, 222 defensive digs, 53 service aces, 42 assists and 46 total blocks 39 assists and seven solo blocks. He recorded a career year as a senior tallying 181 kills, 142 digs and 23 blocks 19 assists and four solo blocks while registering a career single-match high 13 kills on the road against NECC foe Daniel Webster College on February 2, 2012. Additionally, he posted a staggering .391 attack percentage against Lesley University, notching 11 kills on 23 attempts with just two errors. After graduating in the spring of 2012 with a Bachelors of Science degree in criminal justice, Chin currently is the store manager of Sherwin-Williams Paint Company in his hometown of Brockton.
