Head Coach

Marsh, who has built the Wolfpack into a national contender, begins her 17th season in 2016-17. She has made great strides in establishing a consistently competitive program in one of the toughest conferences in the nation since its reinstatement in 2000. In 2016, Marsh led the Wolfpack to its 14th NCAA Regional appearance in 15 years after finishing fifth at the ACC Championship. The team finished in the top-7 of the tournament standings in seven of eight events contested on the season. At the 2015 Landfall Tradition, NC State posted a score of 279 on the final day of play, making the lowest 18-hole team round posted in program history. Marsh additionally led Rachael Taylor to medalist honors at the Lady Gator Invitational and seven rounds of even par or better in her final season with the Pack.  The women's golf program not only has a strong reputation on the course but also in the classroom, as the team has had seven players earn a combined 11 NGCA All-America Scholar honors and has had at least one player land on the All-ACC Academic Team for nine of the last 10 years. The latest honors came from the 2016 season as Sarah Bae was named to the All-ACC Academic Team while Cecily Overbey and Leonie Bettel were named All-American Scholars. Under Marsh's tutelage in 2015, the team qualified for the program's second-straight and third overall NCAA Championship team appearance after earning top-10 finishes in four tournaments during the regular season. Lindsay McGetrick was named to the 2015 All-ACC team while Cecily Overbey earned Academic All-America honors during her rookie season.  In 2014, Marsh coached NC State to its best finish ever. After spending the entire season in the national rankings, the Wolfpack tied for 10th at the NCAA Championship in Tulsa, Okla. In addition, NC State placed third at both the ACC Championship and the NCAA East Regional. NC State qualified for the NCAA Championship as a team for the first time in program history in 2012. The Wolfpack rewrote the record book during the season, setting records for team round (282), team three-day total (858), most wins in a season (3), highest regional seeding (No. 8), most All-ACC performers (2), highest regional finish (7th), and highest national ranking (No. 13). Brittany Marchand became the school's winningest golfer and Augusta James represents State's first ACC Freshman of the Year. In the spring of 2008, the Wolfpack missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships by one stroke at the NCAA Central Regional in Austin, Texas. In the process, however, Lauren Doughtie became the first women's player in school history to compete at the NCAA's when she qualifying as an individual. Under Marsh's tutelage, NC State has won nine tournament team titles, six individuals have captured medalist honors on eight separate occasions and Marsh earned ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2002. Marsh has coached two players to the LPGA tour, as Lauren Doughtie earned a spot on the tour in 2013 and Briana Vega was the winner of The Golf Channel's "The Big Break VII" in 2006, which earned her a spot on the tour. Additionally, 10 former Wolfpackers have competed on various professional circuits, including the Symetra Tour.  Marsh has served in a variety of roles within the golf world, including as associate director of the Women's Western Golf Association, on the United States Golf Association Women's Mid-Amateur Committee and the North and South Amateur Championship. Additionally, Marsh has worked at the Pinehurst Golf Advantage schools. On Sept. 17, 2007, Marsh was part of an 11-member group inducted into the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame after a decorated amateur playing career. Also, back in May of 2001, Marsh was one of six people inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame for her contributions to golf in her home state. A native of Jamestown, N.C., and a graduate of North Carolina, Marsh is familiar with the high level of competition that is associated with the Atlantic Coast Conference. As a four-year starter and MVP with the Tar Heels, Marsh enjoyed much success in her early playing career. She recorded 15 top-10 finishes, including wins at the 1981 and 1982 Duke Invitational, and the 1982 Pat Bradley Invitational. Her stellar play in the conference championships in 1984 and 1985 placed her on the All-ACC teams for the respective years, and most recently on the conference's 50th Anniversary Team. Marsh has enjoyed an illustrious career since her college playing days. Following her graduation from UNC in 1985, she moved to Orlando, Fla., and played professionally in Future Tour Events and Women's Florida Golf Tour in 1986 and 1987. She participated in the LPGA Tour School in 1986. She returned to North Carolina to resume her amateur career. Marsh has competed in the US Women's Open three times and the US Women's Amateur 12 times during her career. She was the North-South Amateur Champion in 1989. Marsh has also earned impressive amateur wins in Mexico, International Women's Four Ball and the North and South, defeating LPGA star Donna Andrews 4 and 3. She was a Curtis Cup alternate in 1990 and 1992 and a US Women's Mid-Am finalist in 1989 and 1990. Golf Digest twice ranked Page as a top 10 player in the nation. She has represented her home state 13 times in the Carolinas-Virginias team matches, serving as team captain from 1994-98. Prior to her turn to coaching, Marsh was a North Carolina Women's Amateur Champion. She won the prestigious event six times - 1983, 1984, 1985, 1996, 1997 and 1999. Marsh is also a five-time Women's Carolina Amateur Champion - 1983, 1984, 1985, 1989 and 1996. Marsh comes from a golfing family; sisters Sheree Crane and Amber Marsh both played collegiate golf and still continue to compete. Her mother, Linda, is very involved in amateur golf, playing senior amateur events and serving on the Women's Committee of the USGA. Aside from her responsibilities in the golfing world, Marsh is the mother of twins, Emma and Rachel. Out-of-State Recruits to use, Email for A. Doyle, Carrie A. Nick Biershenk

Assistant Coach

Biershenk will begin his third season as NC State's assistant coach with the 2016-17 campaign.  During Biershenk's first two season with the Wolfpack, NC State qualified for two NCAA Regionals. The Wolfpack participated at the New Haven (Conn.) regional in 2015 and followed this up with an appearance in the Albuquerque (N.M.) regional in 2016.  Biershenk joined the Wolfpack after serving as an assistant coach and interim head coach at Ole Miss, where he helped the Rebels improve their Golfstat ranking from No. 84 in the nation to No. 68 in just one season. The graduate of Clemson University was the also program's recruiting coordinator. Prior to his time in Oxford, Miss., Biershenk was the head men's and women's golf coach at Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. from 2011-13. In three years of his tutelage, both programs saw impressive gains: the men's team improved from No. 124 nationally to No. 22 and the women's team leaped from No. 132 nationally to No. 10. The overall team GPA improved while he was at the helm of the program, and he also significantly expanded the school's recruiting base, adding golfers from Spain, Bermuda, the United Kingdom, and South America to his teams' ranks. "Nick is not only a very good player, but he's also had to run his own program at Limestone with both the men's and women's teams," said NC State head coach Richard Sykes. "Then with his time at a top program like Ole Miss, he has all the experience we're looking for in someone who can help us run this program and make us better." In addition to all of his accomplishments, Biershenk comes from a strong golfing family. His brother Tommy is currently playing on theTour and has crafted an impressive career since turning pro in 1997, while his other brother, Robbie, was a contestant on the most recent Golf Channel reality show, "Big Break." Robbie was also featured on "Chasing the Dream" and is a six-time World Long Drive finalist. Biershenk replaces Chip Watson, who was the program's assistant coach for the last eight seasons. Following the end of the 2013-14 campaign, Watson, who is the General Manager and Director of Golf at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course, resigned from his coaching post to fully focus on his position at NC State's on-campus golf course and newly-built clubhouse. Richard Sykes

Assistant Coach

Sykes continues to build the excellence and tradition of men's golf at NCState. In his 44th year as head coach of the Wolfpack, Sykes has guided the men's golf program into the national rankings and national prominence on an annual basis. Leading NC State to postseason NCAAplay nearly every season, Sykes always has and always will deflect the credit for the team's success to his players. For his accomplishments at the helm of the Pack, Sykes was selected into the Golf Coaches Hall of Fame in 2001 by the Golf Coaches Association of America. A four-time ACCCoach of the Year, Sykes was bestowed the honor in 1982, 1988, 1990 and 2000. During the 1989-90 season, Sykes guided the program to its first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. Along with that long-awaited team title came ACC Coach of the Year and District III Coach of the Year honors as well. The Wolfpack's successful golf fortunes go beyond the conference level as well. NC State has been represented in the NCAA Championship 33 times in Sykes' career as head coach, finishing among the nation's elite for over four decades. In 2009, Sykes coached Matt Hill to the NCAA Championship, NCAA Regional Championship, and co-ACC Championship. Sykes has coached six ACCChampions, two ACCPlayers of the Year, three ACCRookies of the Year, 45 All-ACC selections and 32 All-Americans. Sykes was also elected as the coach of the West squad in the 1999 East-West All-Star matches. Sykes has also seen many former players enjoy solid professional golf careers, including Tim Clark, Carl Pettersson, Marc Turnesa, Garth Mulroy, Hank Kim, Jeff Lankford, Kelly Mitchum, Vance Heafner, Justin Walters and the aforementioned Matt Hill. Clark and Pettersson have been Sykes' most successful protege's to date. Clark was one of 12 international players selected to compete in the 2003 President's Cup against the Americans, and again in 2005. He won the 2010 THE PLAYERS Championship for his first win on the PGA TOUR.
