Head Coach
Bedortha begins his eighth full season as the womens golf coach at Northern Arizona University. He took over in mid-semester during the spring of 2008, coaching the program over the final three tournaments of the season. During his tenure as head golf coach for the Lumberjacks, Bedortha has guided NAU to three Big Sky Conference titles2009, 2013, 2015and 16 tournament victories. Bedortha has also led the Lumberjacks to NCAA regional play in three of his eight seasons while the team has garnered 28 All-Big Sky Honors since his arrival. NAU (2008-Present) The 2014-15 NAU golf season was a memorable one, capped off by the teams third Big Sky Conference title in the last seven years. The Lumberjacks opened up spring play with a third-place finish at the Grand Canyon Invite, followed by the first of two tournament victories at the Red Rocks Invite. Setting the tone for the rest of the season, NAU battled some tough competition en route to a first-place finish at conference and a birth at regionals. In fact, because of the teams impressive play, Bedortha was named the Big Sky Coach of the Year for 2015. Stellar individual performances under Bedorthas tutelage highlighted 2013-14 for NAU golf. Jacquie LeMarr posted an individual tournament victory, while teammates Brittany McKee and Kaitlen Parsons tied for individual tournament wins before losing in playoff rounds. Bedortha and the Lumberjacks claimed their second Big Sky titleand seventh in program historyin 2012-13, when the team recorded two tournament victories and three All-Big Sky selections. Savana Bezdicek was also awarded the Big Sky Freshman of the Year title, while Bedortha was named Big Sky Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. From the 2008 to 2012, the NAU golf program experienced some serious success. During that time frame, Bedortha coached the Lumberjacks to nine tournament winsone being at conference championships in 09and saw five athletes make the Big Sky All-Conference team. The Lumberjacks also set the school record for individual round score and tournament score in 2010-11, the same year Stephanie Kim was named Big Sky Player of the Year for the second-straight season. Once again, Bedortha earned Big Sky Coach of the Year during the 2008-09 season. Ferris State (2000-2008) Bedortha served as the head men and womens coach at Division II Ferris State University in Michigan beginning in 2000. He was named the Division II National Coach of the Year after leading his womens team to a fourth-place national finish in 2005. Overall, he led five Ferris State womens teams to the national championships, finishing second in both 2004 and 2006 and third in 2007. Prior to Coaching A native of Oregon, Bedortha worked at various golf clubs prior to joining the Ferris State staff including Bend Golf and Country Club and Sunriver Resort in Oregon, Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Deer Run Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. He also worked with the Madison Golf Development Group. Personal A 1990 graduate of Ferris States Professional Golf Management program, Bedortha was an all-conference golfer and three-year letterwinner as an undergraduate at Ferris and helped the Bulldogs win league titles in 1988 and 1989 under coach Ron English. Bedortha presently holds membership in the Professional Golfers Association of America and the National Golf Association. Hes a three-time (2000-01, 2002-03 and 2005-06) GLIAC Coach of the Year honoree and received 2000-01 co-National Womens Golf Coaches Association NCAA Division II East Region Coach of the Year accolades. In the 2002-03 season, Bedortha was the recipient of the NGCAs East Region Coach of the Year Award. Bedortha is the fourth coach in the history of the program.
