University of Northwestern Men's Golf

Aune has been instrumental in the continued success of the mens golf team over the course of the past decade. The 2016-17 season marks the 21st season of Aune owning the head coach responsibilities for the mens golf program as he took it over in 1995. Beginning with its inaugural season in the fall of 2006, the women's golf program is also under the direction and leader of Billy Aune. A very familiar figure to Eagle athletics, Aune graduated from Northwestern, playing basketball during his collegiate days. He also serves as an assistant coach and head junior varsity coach for the Northwestern mens basketball team, which won the 2010 NCCAA Division I National Tournament. The 2015-2016 season represents his 28th year of being a key part of the Eagle mens basketball program. The 2001 Eagle mens golf team won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region III tournament as Billy guided the Northwestern linksters to the schools first ever appearance in the NAIA national championship tournament. Under the direction of Coach Aune, the 2002, 2004, and 2005 Northwestern mens golf teams won the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championship in impressive fashion.  Both the 2009 men's and women's teams boasted the conference player of the year. Aune resides in New Brighton, Minnesota, with his wife, Miriam, and their children, Marley, Isaac and Ezra.
