Wheaton has made a large impact on the Northwestern mens soccer program, turning the program into an annual conference title contender. Wheaton stands as the all-time leader in Northwestern men's soccer program history for career coaching wins. The Eagles have reached the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) post-season tournament championship game in 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2005, winning the title for the first time in school history in 2005. Inheriting a squad that went 9-11-1 in 1999, Coach Wheaton led the 2001 team in posting the programs first winning season since 1986. The Eagles 11 wins in 2001 marked the third most wins in a single season in school history and the most since the fall of 1986, while the programs 14 wins in 2003 was the second most in school history. Thirty-five wins combined from 2001-2003 marked the second best three-year stint the mens soccer program has ever experienced. A former National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I player and two-time All-Big South Conference honoree for Liberty University, Greg played professional soccer with the Minnesota Thunder of the USISL. An impressive resume with extensive playing and coaching experience, Wheaton played for the Internationals of the Minnesota Amateur Soccer League (MASL) and the Minnesota State Select Team from 2000-2002. Other professional playing stops along his career path include Brazil, Bolivia, Africa, and the Middle East. Coach Wheaton, who owns and directs the International School of Soccer Excellence (ISSE) and works with the Minneapolis United Soccer Club to provide various coaching, training and player development services, is also the technical director of the North Suburban Soccer Association (NSSA). Greg Wheaton is entering his 27th season as the Head Coach of the Men’s Soccer team at the University of Northwestern in 2026.  It did not take long for Coach Wheaton’s squad to start making an impact in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. In only his second season, the Eagles made the Conference Championship game. Wheaton's teams reached the championship game in 2001, 2002, and 2004. Finally, in 2005, the Eagles broke through and won the UMAC Tournament. Coach Wheaton has been named the UMAC Coach of the Year three times in his career. While at UNW, Coach Wheaton has coached four NCCAA Academic All-Americans, four NAIA All-Americans, and three NAIA Academic All-Americans. Coach Wheaton is the longest-tenured coach in program history by a wide margin and is the all-time winningest coach in program history with 207 career victories. Before starting his coaching career, Wheaton had a prestigious career as an athlete. Coach Wheaton is a former NCAA Division I player and was a two-time All-Big South Conference honoree at Liberty University. Following his collegiate career, Wheaton played professional soccer with the Minnesota Thunder of the USISL. Wheaton also played for the Internationals of the Minnesota Amateur Soccer League (MASL) and for the Minnesota State Select Team from 2000 to 2002. He also played professionally in Brazil, Bolivia, Africa, and the Middle East. Separate from his UNW Soccer duties, Wheaton owns and directs the International School of Soccer Excellence (ISSE) and works with players of various ages to provide coaching, training, and development services.

Brad Wildman is entering his 13th season as an Assistant Men's Soccer Coach/Recruiting Coordinator in 2026. Coach Wildman currently holds a Ed.S. in Educational Leadership. He worked as the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at the University of St. Thomas for 11 years. Wildman's coaching experience also includes working with the University of Minnesota men’s club team, the former Professional Developmental League (PDL) Minnesota Tornado team, and numerous area club programs. He is a former Board Member for the Minnesota Amateur Soccer League. Wildman holds both United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) licenses and has conducted coaching licensure course for the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA). He also served as District Select Coach for MYSA.
