Dick Kaiser

Coach

Kaiser begins his second season as head men's and women's golf coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State. Kaiser has devoted the past 41 years of his life to teaching and mentoring students through college athletics and has built up an impressive resume along the way. He spent nearly three decades as an Athletic Director, most recently at South Dakota School of Mines, where he guided the Hardrockers through a transition from NAIA to full NCAA Division II membership. As Mines' prepared to write a new chapter following its formal NCAA acceptance in the summer of 2013, Kaiser saw his own chance to turn the page by going back to his roots. The move to Alva not only marked a return to coaching for Kaiser, but also an opportunity to spend more time with family. His son, Ryan, serves as Associate Director of Athletics at Northwestern. I cant tell you how excited I am to get to interact with student-athletes on a more regular basis, said Kaiser. This is an exciting time for me and the change, after serving the past 30 years as an Athletic Director, has come at the right time and the right moment for me. It's been a real shot of adrenaline. Kaiser's expertise also comes at a perfect time for Northwestern, which is closing in the finish line of its own NCAA transition. Kaiser began his career as the athletic director and head football, basketball, and baseball coach at Pawnee High School in Colorado before moving into higher education. He launched his collegiate coaching career during a two-year run as a graduate assistant football coach for South Dakota State University. Over the next two decades, Kaiser's career spanned multiple state and even sports. He returned to Kansas as Assistant Athletic Director at Dodge City Community College, where he also served as head baseball coach and football defensive coordinator. Kaiser next moved into the four-year ranks at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, working as assistant football and head tennis coach before moving on to Brigham Young University in Utah to coach the middle linebackers. A four-year stint at Idaho State University followed, during which Kaiser again took on the role of defensive coordinator. Following his time at ISU, Kaiser returned to administration full-time, working as athletic director at WiIllamette University and later Western Oregon University. Kaiser served as director of intercollegiate athletics at both Olivet College in Michigan and Defiance College in Ohio for a combined total of fourteen years. During that time, he also served as golf program supervisor and Chair of the NCAA Division III National Championship Golf Committee. The Boulder, Colo. native earned his undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education at the University of Northern Colorado in 1972 and his masters degree in Educational Leadership at South Dakota State University in 1975. He completed his doctorate in Athletic Administration from BYU in 1981. Kaiser has two adult children, Cassie and Ryan, and four grandchildren; Jack, Carson, Caden and Lucy.
