Inglis on Twitter Follow Northwestern Men's Golf on Facebook David Inglis joined Northwestern as its assistant men's golf coach prior to the 2010-11 season, marking the first collegiate coaching job for the former NCAA All-American and professional golfer. In 2014, Northwestern Director of Golf and Player Development Pat Goss elevated Inglis to head coach of the men's program. After four years of successfully running NU's home Windon Memorial Classic and Northwestern's recruiting, Inglis took on more day-to-day program administration in his role as head coach, allowing Goss to dedicate more time to securing the future of Northwestern golf while remaining alongside Inglis as a day-to-day student-athlete golf instructor. Inglis, a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, was a four-time champion of the Western Athletic Conference and three-time All-American from 2000-04 at Tulsa, also winning Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Athlete honors from the GCAA in 2003 and 2004. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration in 2004. Northwestern has qualified for the NCAA Regionals in all of Inglis' seasons, advancing to the NCAA National Championships field in 2011. In both 2012-13 and 2013-14, Inglis was one of three finalists for the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Jan Strickland Award as the nation's top assistant coach. In 2000, Inglis won the British Boys Amateur Championship, the largest boys event in Europe and equivalent to the U.S. Junior Championship. Inglis was instrumental in recruiting the 2012 British Boys champion -- Sheffield, England, native Matt Fitzpatrick -- who signed his NLI when he was the No. 11 ranked amateur in the world. Fitzpatrick would arrive in Evanston for the fall of 2013 as the No. 1 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking after earning the Silver Medal at the 2013 Open Championship, finishing second in the English Men's Amateur and winning the 2013 U.S. Amateur Championship. He picked up two top-three finishes including one win for the Wildcats, then left NU following one quarter to turn professional after the 2014 U.S. Open. While at Tulsa, Inglis competed as an amateur for the victorious GB&I Walker Cup team in 2003. He was a member of the European Palmer Cup Teams in 2001 and 2003, winning with the squad in 2003. Inglis was named an assistant coach for the 2011 European Palmer Cup team, making him the first former Palmer Cup competitor to later serve as a coach in the collegiate Ryder Cup-style event. Inglis returned to his post in the event for the 2012 staging, as well, helping the squad make a huge final day comeback to claim the Cup. Inglis turned professional in 2004, competing on the European Tour, the Challenge Tour and several Mini Tours. Beginning in October of 2005 and continuing until he joined Northwestern, Inglis worked at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he served as a golf instructor, junior golf coach and tournament organizer. Donald, a four-time All-American, and Jess Daley, another Wildcat All-American, both earned their PGA TOUR cards in December 2001. Tom Johnson, a 2004 graduate, earned his PGA TOUR card in December of 2006 and Chris Wilson, a 2007 grad, won his PGA TOUR card during Q school in 2009 before earning a berth in the 2011 U.S. Open through local and sectional qualifying. 2011 graduate David Lipsky won the 2012 Asian Tour Qualification School to earn his card on that circuit, where he won his third-ever professional event, the HANDA Faldo Cambodian Classic. In 2014, Lipsky captured the Omega European Masters to earn his European Tour card. The success on the course also has carried over into the classroom. In the 50 academic quarters that Goss has been in charge, his Wildcats have boasted at least a 3.0 team grade point average in 43 of them. In addition, Wildcats routinely have earned GCAA Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors in recent years, totaling 18 such awards in Goss' tenure. The accolade combines criteria comprised of skill level, grade point average and moral character. Upon assuming duties as interim head coach in February 1997, Goss guided NU to a runner-up finish at the Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate Championships in Pottsboro, Texas. The next weekend, the Wildcats won the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W. Va., the school's first tournament title since 1993. Just prior to the Big Ten Championships, the interim tag was lifted and Goss was named head coach. In Goss' first season at the helm, the Wildcats qualified for the NCAA Championships. It was a special moment for the team and Goss as Northwestern also was the host school for the tournament. Playing in front of a purple-filled gallery, the Wildcats shocked many by leading the NCAA Championships after both the first and second rounds.
