Conor Holt

Head Coach

Holt was named the head coach of the track & field/cross country programs at Northwood University in June of 2016. Conor Holt brings an incredible record of success to our track and cross country programs, said Dave Marsh, Northwood Athletic Director. He has demonstrated the ability to recruit and develop student-athletes to perform at a high level. With Conor at the helm we have a strong, well-rounded staff which gives Northwood track and cross country a bright future. Holt comes to Northwood after a highly successful five-year run as the head coach at Oklahoma City University. Since 2013, he has led the Stars to three NAIA Mens Cross Country team championships (2013, 2014, 2015), 69 All-Americans and four individual National Champions. A three-time NAIA Cross Country Coach of the Year, Holt had led Oklahoma City to 31 school records and 28 Academic All-Americans. He has also shown marked improvement with the womens cross country program, with the team placing sixth at the NAIA championships in 2015. That was the highest finish in program history.  The track programs also among the best in NAIA under Holt. Last season, the men placed second while the women finished ninth in the NAIA Program of the Year standings, which combined the national team results from cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. Prior to his time at Oklahoma City, Holt was an assistant coach at a pair of high-profile Division I programs. From 2007-2011, he worked at Purdue University. While in West Lafayette, Holt guided the Boilermakers to eight regional track qualifiers, four Big Ten medal winners and 14 conference place winners. Holt also spent two years as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Oregon State University. While at OSU, Holt mentored the first Regional Track qualifiers and Pac-10 Conference scorer (Ashley Younce -10,000 meters). As a private coach, Holt has helped his wife, Camille Herron, become one of the top ultra-distance runners in the world. Herron is a three-time qualifier for the US Olympic Marathon Trials, a 20-time marathon winner and a two-time world champion (50K, 100K). She also holds the world record in the 50-mile run. Holt was a six-time All-American at the University of Oklahoma three times in cross country and three time in track. He finished in the top-14 in the NCAA Cross Country Championships three times and took home the Big 8 Championship in the 10,000 meters in 1996. A native of Ireland, Holt was a three-time junior national champion, taking home two 5,000 meter titles and one 3,000 meter championships. He was a member of the Junior World Cross Country team from 1989-91. Holt also participated at the Junior World Track & Field Championships in 1990 and the World University Games in 1993. Im very excited to start a new chapter at Northwood, said Holt. I would like to thank Dave Marsh and Dr. (Keith) Pretty for having faith in me to lead the program. While we are sad to be leaving Oklahoma, I am very proud of all of the things we have accomplished. We have a great staff in place at Northwood and I am looking forward to accomplishing great things in Michigan. Michael Roberts

Assistant Coach

Roberts was named the head coach of the Northwood University cross country/track & field teams in September of 2016. This will be Roberts' third season overall as a part of the Northwood staff. After spending his first season as an assistant coach, Robert was the interim head coach after the departure of Jamie Moreno in December of 2015. In his time at Northwood, he has focused on sprints, hurdles, relays, and both the vertical and horizontal jumps. Roberts also serves as the recruiter coordinator for the Cross Country / Track & Field team. During his first two years with the Timberwolves, Roberts has had a pair of athletes earn individual GLIAC conference titles in the Long Jump and Triple Jump and each went on to compete at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor National Championships. He has also coached the Timberwolves to capturing a combined seven school records in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100 meter dash, 400 Hurdles, and Women's 4 x 100m relay in both indoors and outdoors seasons. In the 2015-16 season, Roberts served as Interim Head Coach for the Timberwolves and coached junior Elaina Meadows to school records in both the indoors and outdoors Long Jump. Meadows also captured the Indoor GLIAC Conference Title, as well as qualifying for the NCAA Indoor National Championships where she earned 2nd Team All-American honors. Along with Meadows, sophomores Madison Arnouts (400m Hurdles) and Kara Young (100m Dash) each broke school records of their own.  In the 2014-15 season, Roberts coached Jeremy Wilchcombe to an Outdoor GLIAC Conference Title and NCAA Outdoor All-American 8th place finish in the Triple Jump. Wilchcombe is also the school record holder for both the indoors and outdoors events. In addition, he coached the women's 4x100m Relay Team to a new school record. Prior to Northwood University, Roberts gained insight and experience from spending two years as the assistant sprint coach for Indiana State University. While with the Sycamores, Roberts coached Katie Wise to qualify for the USA Championships and the NACAC Championships in the 100m Dash (11.18). He also guided Wise to an NCAA Indoor All-American 5th place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.25.  In the 2013-14 season, Roberts mentored nine Sycamores to the NCAA Outdoor National championships in the 100m (11.18), 200m (23.06), 110H (13.43-men), 400H (50.80-men) and the women's 4 x 100m relay (44.64). During his stint with the Sycamores, Roberts coached 21 athletes to the NCAA East Preliminary Round and has coached 14 athletes to All-Conference Indoor and Outdoor titles in the sprints, hurdles, and relays at the MVC Championships. The majority of those achievements where during his time under Head Coach John McNichols and Head Coach Angela Martin at ISU.  Roberts also helped the Sycamores capture consecutive Indoor and Outdoor Conference team titles in 2013 and 2014. Roberts was also a respected student-athlete, competing at Indiana State University. Roberts was a two-time East Preliminary Round qualifier and a multiple time All-MVC runner-up in the hurdles. He also served as an ISU team captains during his collegiate career. Roberts graduated from Indiana State with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. He also earned his Master's of Science degree (M.S.) in Physical Education with a specialization in Coaching. Roberts is a United States Track and Field (USATF) Level 1 certified instructor. In his spare time, Roberts likes to read and spend time with his dog Lootus.

Zac Ball

Assistant Coach

Ball as an assistant coach for the Northwood University Cross Country / Track & Field programs. He will focus on coaching the throws for the upcoming track season, but also serves as the director of operations for both the Cross Country and Track & Field programs. In addition, Ball is the strength and conditioning coach for the throws/middle and long distance runners. In his first season at Northwood, Ball coached the throws and the distance runners. He guided three athletes to school records, as well as four NCAA provisional standard marks. Tyler Jensen and Jenny Frantz both broke school records in the 1,000 meters, while Hunter Perry broke the school record in the discus by over ten feet to finish the year 23rd in the country. Paul Evans finished the year as one of the top two in school history in three different categories, with provisional marks in the weight throw, discus, and hammer, finishing Top 25 nationally in all three events. Ball has also rewritten Northwoods top ten all-time list in the throws with all 11 of his athletes placing within the top ten in multiple events Prior to Northwood University, Ball had a distinguished career at Ashland University where he was a six-time All-American in the hammer and weight throw. The 2014 Indoor GLIAC Champion in the weight throw, Ball earned GLIAC Athlete of the week three times in his career. He was also named National Athlete of the Week in January of 2015. A two year team captain for the Eagles, Ball was on six podium teams at the NCAA meet finishing as NCAA runner ups twice. Ball also ranks top ten all time in NCAA history in the weight throw. His mark of 21.89 ranks him as the 7th best thrower in the weight in Division II history. A native of South Amherst, Ohio, Ball earned a bachelors of science degree with a focus on exercise science and minors in religion, coaching, and nutrition from Ashland in 2015. In his spare time Coach Ball likes to golf as well as going to University of Michigan football games.
