Young finished 22 nd with a time of 25:51, a personal best at NDNU in an 8k race, but he finished just one spot outside of the All-Conference team. Nunes landed at Stanislaus after interning at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he managed the men and womens cross country programs as assistant coach. Under his training, the mens team captured their first multi-event title in the 13-year history of the GNAC Conference, finishing first at the Saint Martins Cross Country Invite.  At the GNAC Conference Championships the men finished 7 th , an improvement from the year prior. The women maintained their position in the conference at 8 th place.   Nunes began his coaching career at Northwest Missouri State University, spending two years as a graduate assistant cross country/track coach while obtaining his Master of Science in Applied Health and Sports Science with emphases in Sports Administration. His duties included administering workouts, recruiting, and meet management. During this time he studied the sport of distance running and obtained his USA Track & Field Level 1 Certification.   As a runner at Stanislaus, Nunes was named an All-California College Athletic Association runner twice in cross country and twice in track & field.
