Will Morris
Head Coach
Morris enters his second season as the men's and women's golf coach. The Tiger women had one of the finest years in the history of Occidental Golf in Morris first season. Last Fall, they travelled to Hawaii to compete in the prestigious Hawaii-Hilo Invitational. The Tigers were the only non-scholarship school to play in the event. Led by Senior Co-Captain and All-Conference selection Kristin Oberiano, the Tigers had a very successful season in an extremely competitive conference. For Morris, this will be his fifth year at Occidental College. He is also an Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach and the Athletic Department's Community Wellness Coordinator. "I very much enjoy coaching golf at Occidental, where we can offer the quality of education associated with the Ivy League and a climate more suited for golf," Morris said. "I have had a lifelong passion for the game." Morris has coached everything from basketball, to golf and even lacrosse in the SCIAC. He won a SCIAC championship as the Associate Head Coach of the La Verne Men's basketball team in the 90s and became the winningest head coach in the history of the Whittier women's basketball program during his tenure from 1998-2008. But the Oberlin College graduate's first passion and true expertise lies in golf. He started playing when he was just 3-years-old, went on to be the captain and MVP of his college golf team and even briefly caddied on the PGA tour as a part-time job in college. He has served as the head golf coach at Whittier College and Blair HS in Pasadena. "Will comes from the old school philosophy of small college athletics where coaches are truly educators first," Hoffman said. "I'm not sure there's a sport he can't coach, but we're happy to have such a seasoned educator coaching his first love." Morris was a Sociology and Anthropology major at Oberlin. After his undergraduate years, Morris studied Law and graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin, Madison School of Law. He was selected for Law Review and he graduated as a member of the prestigious Order of the Coif. He practiced law for a number of years in the areas of Real Estate, Probate, Estate Planning and Business. He has served on the Board of Directors of the San Gabriel Valley Bar Association and Alhambra Chamber of Commerce. He gave up the full-time practice of law to pursue teaching and coaching. He has taught college courses in a number of areas including Sports Law and Recreation and Sports Management. Will is very active in the community, youth sports and his childrens schools. He has served as an a Little League Coach, AYSO Official, YMCA Volunteer and has been on the PTA, Annual Fund, School Site Council, and Athletic Booster groups at his childrens schools. While serving as Annual Fund Chair at Don Benito Fundamental in Pasadena, he raised over $250,000 to support the school. He is married to Janet and they have two boys, Mo (14) and Michael (11). They reside in Pasadena.
