Jibril Stapleton

Head Coach

Jibril Stapleton returned to Oglethorpe in 2023 as an assistant men’s lacrosse coach and became the program's interim head coach in 2025. Prior to Oglethorpe Stapleton most recently served as an assistant coach at Pace Academy from 2020 to 2024. He has also been the head coach for multiple youth summer lacrosse, basketball and baseball camps. Education | Personal Stapleton graduated from Oglethorpe in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He earned his master’s degree of applied health and exercise science from Kennesaw State in 2023. During his time as a Petrel, Stapleton was a three-year captain of the men’s lacrosse team. He was named to the 2017 All-Sportsmanship team and the 2019 SAA academic honor roll. Stapleton was also a student-worker in Oglethorpe’s athletics department, working in Schmidt Recreation Center.

Nathan Young

Young was hired as Oglethorpe University's third men's lacrosse coach in program history in July 2014. Young comes to Oglethorpe from SAA rival Birmingham-Southern College, where he was the Assistant Coach to the fourth-place Panthers. Prior to his Division III coaching career, Young was at Young Harris College (NCAA Division II) in Young Harris, Ga., where he was the assistant coach for the inaugural season of men's lacrosse in 2013. Prior to YHC, he started the men's lacrosse program at Shorter University (NCAA Division II) in Rome, Ga. In Shorter's inaugural season in 2010, the Hawks went 7-3 with an undefeated home record. He accumulated a .585 winning percentage at Shorter during his career there, and two of his assistants went on to become Division II head coaches. Prior to his stint at Shorter, Young also started the Tennessee Wesleyan (NAIA) program, posting a .500+ winning percentage and advancing to the conference playoffs in consecutive seasons. He coached 10 all-conference players as well as two All-Americans and a Player of the Year. In 2008, Young had the privilege of serving as assistant coach for the USA Athletes International (USAAI) national team, traveling to Europe to play in the Berlin Open and the Prague Cup. He and the team returned stateside with trophies from both tournaments, going 6-0 in Prague and 7-0 in Berlin. Young began his coaching career in the high school ranks, leading his alma mater Lyman High School (Longwood, Fla.) to its first winning record since his graduation. He then served as a graduate assistant at Franklin Pierce University (NCAA Division II) to begin his collegiate coaching career, serving as offensive coordinator. He helped improve the team from 3.9 goals per game in 2005 to over eight just one year later. Young graduated with a bachelor of science in business administration with a concentration in economics from Pfeiffer University in 2004, then went on to earn his master of business administration from Franklin Pierce in 2007. During his summers, he coaches two Atlanta-based travels teams at the U-15 and U-19 levels.

Xay Duax

Assistant Coach

Xavier “Xay” Duax joined Oglethorpe’s athletics staff as assistant men’s lacrosse coach in 2025 following an outstanding career as a Stormy Petrel. Duax serves the men’s lacrosse team as goalie coach, overseeing the development of the team’s goalkeepers throughout the year. Education | Personal Duax graduated from Oglethorpe in 2025 following a playing career that saw him rank No. 2 all-time in both saves and save percentage. He also was a member of the Southern Athletic Association academic all-conference team and ranks all-time at Oglethorpe in several ground ball categories.
