Jason Maus

Head Coach

Maus is in his eighth season as the head mens and womens cross country and track & field coach at Ohio Northern. In the 2015-16 season, Maus led the Polar Bear men's team to a second place finish at the OAC Outdoor Championships and a second place finish at the OAC Indoor Championships. He also led the women's team to a third place finish at the OAC Indoor Championships and a second place finish at the OAC Outdoor Championships. In his seven seasons as head coach, Maus has led the mens program to three conference championship titles (three indoor) and the womens program to one indoor title. He has also coached two national champions, Josh Colbert, who won the outdoor long jump national championship in 2014 and Emily Richards who won the 800 meter run at the 2016 outdoor championships. Maus and his staff were named coaching staff of the year on both the men's and women's side at the 2014-15 OAC Outdoor Championships. Maus earned Female Coach of the Year honors in the 2016 outdoor season after leading the women's team to a first place regional ranking.  He is no stranger to the Polar Bear program as he was also as an assistant cross country and track & field at ONU from 2002-09, where he coached the distance runners and was the recruiting coordinator. He came to ONU from Heidelberg, where he was a three-time Academic All-American in track and cross country. Maus was a two-time OAC Champion in track and a two-time All-OAC honoree in cross country. He received his bachelors degree from Heidelberg in 2002 and his masters degree at Bowling Green State University in 2005. Maus was part of the OAC Womens Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year in 2005, 2006 and 2008 and Mens Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year in 2007 and 2008. Maus is in his first season as Division III President of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). He also serves as a lecturer in the business college at ONU. Maus is USATF Level I and Level II certified in distance and throws. He and his wife, Lindsey, live in Ada with their sons, Hayden and Jackson.

Casey Gantt

Assistant Coach

Gantt is in his seventh season as the assistant coach for mens and womens cross country and track & field. He helped coach Josh Colbert to the national title in the long jump at the 2014 NCAA III Outdoor Championships. Gantt also helped coach Emily Richards to the national title in the 800-meter run at the 2016 NCAA III Outdoor Championships. He also received Female Assistant Coach of the Year honors after being a part of the back-to-back OAC Female Coaching Staff of the Year in 2014 and 2015. Gant was also named 2016 Outdoor Great Lakes Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year. Gantt started at ONU in early 2011 as the recruiting assistant before taking over the assistant role. He brings coaching experience as a volunteer coach at Carthage College and from Grayslake Central High School (Ill.). Additionally, Gantt has a Bachelors Degree from Illinois State, where he was a four-year varsity and multiple time All-Conference athlete. He was also named an scholar athlete and was inducted into the Lake County (Ill.) Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010. Gantt earned his Masters Degree in sport management from the United States Sports Academy. Gantt has also earned his USATF Level 1 certification. Gant has USTFCCCA Event Specialist Certifications in sprints, hurdles, relays and jumps. He also has his USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning certification.  Gantt and his wife Erin reside in Lima with their son Michael, and daughter Emily.
