Phil McSpadden

Head Coach

Phil McSpadden has built the nation's finest small-college soft­ball program and most storied program in the NAIA at Okla­homa City University, capturing 11 national cham­pionships, the most in NAIA history, while becoming college softball’s leader in wins. McSpadden has directed OCU to 2,048 victories in 39 years. OCU gave McSpadden his 1,458th and 1,459th career wins on April 10, 2015 at Ann Lacy Stadium to surpass four-year schools leader Margie Wright. Wins number 1,859 and 1,860 pushed McSpadden ahead of college victory leader Mike Candrea (Central Arizona and the University of Arizona) on March 10, 2025. Among many accolades, McSpadden owns membership in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame, NAIA Hall of Fame, Oklahoma Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the OCU Athletics Hall of Fame. McSpadden has been recog­nized as National Coach of the Year by the NFCA three times, NAIA Coach of the Year 11 times, NAIA regional Coach of the Year nine times, Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year 11 times and District 9 Coach of the Year four times. He and his staff have been NFCA NAIA Coaching Staff of the Year seven times. In his years at OCU, McSpadden has a college coaching record of 1,998-424 (.828 winning percentage). He has guided OCU to 17 national championship games, six national runner-up finishes, 33 trips to the NAIA Softball World Series, 25 50-win seasons, 14 55-win seasons and seven 60-win seasons. McSpadden's 1999 team won more games than any NAIA team has ever with 69. OCU has captured nine regional titles, five bi-district titles, five district titles and 29 SAC titles un­der McSpadden. McSpadden's Stars had a three-year span of over .900 (2015, 16 and 17) that saw the team win two NAIA titles while going 135-4 in 2016 and 2017. The 2017 champions finished at 68-1. McSpadden has coached 113 all-Americans, eight NAIA players of the year, two NAIA pitchers of the year, eight NAIA catchers of the year, five four-time all-American and 62 academic All-Americans. Four former OCU players have helped their country win Olympic medals. In 1988, McSpadden came to OCU and started a tradition of dominance. Prior to coming to OCU, McSpadden coached at Ponca City and Dewey High Schools, compiling an impressive 127-40 re­cord in five years while leading teams at both schools to state tournaments. While at Dewey, his teams won the school's first three crowns in any sport. A native of Vinita, Okla., McSpadden played baseball at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and Oral Roberts. He graduated from ORU in 1977 with a business management degree. He earned his master's degree in business education from Oklahoma State in 1980. Bobbi Bridges

Associate Head Coach

Bobbi Bridges has been a part of NAIA title teams as a coach and a player at Oklahoma City University. She is in her 22nd season assisting coach Phil McSpadden, the all-time leader in wins vs. four-year schools in college softball, in all aspects of the program. Bridges earned Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2024 and is a 2025 OCU Hall of Fame Inductee. In her 21 years coaching at OCU, the Stars have averaged 53 wins per year. She has contributed to four national championships, three national runner-up finishes, 19 NAIA Softball World Series appearances, eight Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season titles and nine conference tournament crowns. Bridges has mentored three NAIA player of the year honorees, 53 all-Americans, five NFCA NAIA catchers of the year, seven SAC player of the year recipients, five league pitcher of the year award winners, one SAC newcomer of the year and three conference freshmen of the year. She has been honored along with OCU’s other coaches in being awarded NFCA national coaching staff of the year five times and regional coaching staff of the year seven times. She played for McSpadden at OCU from 1994-98, helping OCU win three consecutive NAIA championships. She was select­ed as a first-team NAIA all-American catcher in 1997 and 1998. Prior to her return to the OCU softball program, Bridges spent two years as the assistant coach at Blinn College in Bren­ham, Texas. A native of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, Bridges set NAIA Championships records with two home runs in a game and eight total bases in a game. She set those records against Mobile (Ala.) in 1997. Bridges once played for the Team Canada softball program. Bridges is married to Prince Bridges.
